In the old town, we noticed signs that the police had made it a dispersal area - usually an indicator of wild weekend behaviour, which seemed a tad unlikely. When we asked in one of the pubs, they told us that it can get very lively when the Young Farmers come into town ...
Kidderminster has a horrible lock. That's about the extent of my knowledge of the place, sadly.
Which West Midlands football team colours did you choose?

I'd like to think it was Kidderminster Harriers.
oh I want to go in that funicular !!
Memorial bench seats (those with a dedication inscribed on the upright) are usually only allowed for people who have died. Bridgenorth Council made an exception for my uncle when he turned 90 so that he could rest halfway on the walk into town.

Is there a limerick about a young man or young lady from Bewdley? If there isn't, there should be.
I think the most famous person to come out of Bewdley must surely be the lead man of Underworld, Karl Hyde? Not the sort of place you'd expect to produce someone like that, but they did.
Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin or the lead musician in Underworld - it's a tough call.
Ah, my mistake - I'm impressed Stanley Baldwin actually represented his home town, considering how much Bonar Law and Ramsay McDonald jumped around.
Kidderminster used to have a decent town centre.

Then the Town Council made the mistake of building two big new retail parks outside the traditional town centre. All the big retailers promptly moved out to go there, causing the smaller shops to die off too, leaving a wasteland of charity and bric-a-brac shops.
I once knew someone who was entitled to drive sheep through Bridgnorth. I'm not sure if he ever did.
I love that the streamlined shape is for something that inherently does not need to be streamlined, and by necessity of its access arrangements is actually as un-streamlined as it could possibly be at the ends, where streamlining would be at its most useful. A wonderful thing.
Baldwin initially seemed to be another in the line of local dignitaries representing a home seat. Between 1880 and 1937 various Baldwins represented Bewdley for all but seven years. But underestimating Baldwin was a mistake many of his political enemies made over the years, hence a sculp list that included Lloyd George, the miners' union, a King and many more.

I'm pretty sure Quantic is also from Bewdley. In fact there's a strong music tradition in that area: I think Robert Plant lives around Highley. I'm somewhat obsessed with Bridgnorth as a place to emigrate to from London - it ticks an awful lot of boxes for me (the railway not being one of them): the river, the townscape, decent bus services, the views, location within England as a whole; the only real issue being the preponderance of Union Jacks and white skin (for a Londoner).
Interesting that the funicular is currently supported by the European Regional Development Fund. Hopefully for the locals, the fare will not have to increase too much after Brexit.
The town hall in Bridgnorth was open most days until recently, they served tea and coffee in there.

The interior is quite impressive, less so the decor in the council chamber.

By the way, as a Londoner now living in Bridgnorth I'm glad you finally made it up here
