Thanks DG. I’ve been wondering about that path down from the road for the last seven years.
I wonder if the people in the park office had just forgotten about it? I can't think of any works they've done there recently which would have prevented it opening until now.
On that final closed entrance - also exited the park this way after the Paralympics, it's intuitively one of the more useful future exits. Crossrail's works site may be on site near the high street end for quite a while, but as far as I can tell nothing would really prevent access being reopened to the separate path that runs from Blaker Road under the Greenway - which seems to have been completely forgotten.
David - the Greenway north of Stratford High Street was reopened last July... but not the path alongside.

In the unlikely event that the Blaker Road tunnel ever reopens, it'd connect to that currently closed underpass.
The faded magenta sign on the pillar of the Waterden Road bridge says "No entry - Entree interdite", and dates back to the Games.

Bolt-cutters are cheap.... Just saying
^ Yes part of me wonders if the gate has been unofficially opened given the temporary fence blocking access from the other end is still shifted to the side rather than removed. The path has quite a lot of weeds and graffiti that you don't really get elsewhere in the park.
whats with the redphone box hate?
I was a confused about where the newly opened gate was, didn't realise it was on the southern side of Westerden Road. I found in on Street View.

Street View normally has a date, but its not showing for these locations.

I did find a spot on the bridge looking at the phone box and old ramp that has five separate dates, that shows work was completed 2016-17:
Jun 2014 - Ramp up = Good condition
- Ramp down = Gravel with a few weeds
May 2015 - Ramp up = Good condition
- Ramp down = overgrown
Oct 2015 - Ramp up = Good condition
- Ramp down - Almost completely overgrown
May 2016 - Ramp up = Removed, replaced with top soil
- Ramp down - being relayed, awaiting top layer
Sep 2017 - Ramp up = No evidence of bottom section, fenced off.
- Ramp down - completed, matches rest of path
