My initial reaction was "Oh wow, Beanotown!" but having read your write up it all sounds rather flat, and I'm not sure it's worth dragging all the way into town for. Not even for a farting door! :(

Pretty sure that sandy beach has been there for a long time. It used to be lit up in crazy colours at night, but that might have been a winter-only thing.

It's DC Thomson, not "DC Thompson"! Everybody - including a large proportion of supposedly respectable media outlets - seems to make that mistake.

Oh, and I am not a "noted comic aficionado", except insofar as I seem to have finally succeeded in persuading you to promote the Dandy approximately two years after I first asked you to. :-)

Speaking of which, "Half a physicist" may be interested to know that both Billy the Cat and Katie feature - after a fashion - in the Dandy's ongoing Retro-Active serial, as so kindly mentioned by DG in his post, courtesy of my not entirely relevant witterings.
