If the 7,000 new homes which will be left behind go to people who actually need them rather than people who can afford them, and if the new transport links actually get built, then I won't begrudge the twenty-quid-plus which will be added to every Londoner's council tax. As it is,if we can't even organise fireworks on NYE, then I don't hold much hope for a successful Olympics.

PS. Judging by the drunken state of Islington's Upper Street this evening, DG, I guess congratulations are in order for some football club or other.

One minor point, not that I want to be picky - I just can't help being pedantic, the Barcelona Games were in 1992, not 1988.
