The bus countdown system was a major fail for me last weekend. Waiting for a night bus they kept appearing in the system and a few minutes before they were due to arrive (I was standing at the second stop on the route) they would disappear from the countdown. 50 minutes I waited in the end for a bus that was originally due in 15 minutes...

Does this mean that a year from now it will safe to go back to London without the danger of being seen as an Olympics tourist, or being charged 'top-pound' for anything from a bottle of water to accommodation (i.e. I mean getting ripped off at Olympic rates?). YAY!!!!

I think contributing to CurioCity is right up your street. If the current issue is A perhaps you could be featured in issue D(G)...?

Someone has suggested the revised DLR timetable is due to an arms fair at ExCel.

Maybe it's a limited number of buses - mine are still showing buses 17 mins and 24 mins out (to give an example)

Matthew: the Countdown time limit appears to be in flux - it's now generally 15-20 minutes, which is rather better than it was this morning.

Thanks for the heads up on the map! An excellent stocking filler for my dad!

Map? Map? Oh thank you. I have immediately sent one of my offspring to procure a copy from New Gallery, London - poor devil lives round the corner - and they're open until 22:00 on a Sunday!

From the info sent out to residents of the ExCeL estate...

"[DSEi] is an international defence exhibition supporting the UK defence and security industries - it is NOT an arms fair."

(No, I don't know what an arms fair IS then... ignoring whether you support it or not it's surely exactly an arms fair)

PS countdown much less useful for night buses with reduced time limit by the look of it

The Countdown time interval is fluctuating wildly. As I type it is down for maintenance. While accepting it's a test version it is not useful to have "no info" displayed when the bus is actually about 5 minutes away. You can tell this if you step back through the stop list to preceding stops. The ideal interval is about 30-40 minutes for the suburbs where there are more low frequency services or likelihood of longer gaps due to disruption.

In the centre of town with multiple routes and high frequencies I can see why TfL might want a narrower window. It will keep data flows down and departure lists more manageable. The exception to this must be early morning, late evenings and overnight when frequencies drop quite a lot and therefore a "wider window" is necessary for people who may have a 20-30 minute wait for their bus.

And to reply to myself the Countdown system is back up and seems to be back to showing a 30 minute window of departures. Hooray!

Yes. 30mins here too - cant really blame them fir tweaking the system while in test mode. And Stratford city is already showing as a destination (though not on the buses)...

Definitions of "Fair"
(from Collins)
2. a gathering of producers of and dealers in a given class of products to facilitate business: e.g. a book fair
4. a regular assembly at a specific place for the sale of goods, esp livestock

(from Wikipedia) A fair or fayre (common British spelling) is a gathering of people to display or trade produce or other goods,....... It is normally of the essence of a fair that it is temporary ..... Some trade fairs are important regular business events where either products are traded between businesspeople, as at the Frankfurt Book Fair, ........ or where products are showcased to largely consumer attendees, as for example in agricultural districts where they present opportunities to display and demonstrate the latest machinery on the market to farmers.

Fairs are also known by many different names around the world, such as agricultural show, fĂȘte, county fair, EXHIBITION .......or and show."
