I believe the linear car park by the Lea replaced some nice parkland at NBC's request, because the multi-storey was somehow not satisfactory for them. In the end, the one by the Lea was barely used.
That's appalling (quite appalling), given what an ugly peripheral intrusion these parking spaces make. Let me add that to the main post...
This is going to be another one of those posts where the only comments are ones pointing out mistakes...

"...the ramp up the the sewertop is unexpectedly open."

Why does the photo of the Water Bus stop go to a photo of the Bow Roundabout planters?
"algae-filled pool lined with corrugated iron" - more like a sheet piled cofferdam, or a sheet piled something (I can't tell what its function is !)
Having done some digging (it's a bit quiet at work this evening), I've found the planning application which granted that new car park - it's at http://planningforms.newham.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=M0ZLYOSZK0000 if you're interested.
Apparently broadcasters needed 150 spaces to get around to other venues 'inside the fence' - the multi-storey wasn't suitable because it was the wrong side of security screening.

I've just been digging through my pics, photos, and it appears that I have one of it being rather underused during the Olympics:

(and apologies for my last paragraph making limited sense.)
