Phew. Every time I pick a random borough out of my jamjar I always worry that there's going to be nothing to write about. And I'm always wrong. Hurrah for Haringey.

Ever the cynic of the organisation in charge of the borough, but your writeups remind me that there's still faith to be had in the place. A divided borough perhaps, but it still belongs to its people as a whole, and I'm glad to be a part of it.

Very nicely done, DG.

Ally Pally and Crystal Palace: opposite sides of London, both built with commanding views of the capital, both were home to the development of television in the early years, both burnt down. Spooky, huh?

Someone else remembers Mr Trebus! We thought we were the only ones.

I hope you get to find his house one day

No comment on this blogpost - only to tell Diamond Geezer that I am so happy to have been referred to the website via a Fodors (Europe) post!!
I LOVE this site!

First HD service in 1936 - and Sky only catches up now!!!

Dear DG,

I wondered if you wouldn't mind posting a link from the Official Palace website.

Far from the Council 'ruin' the palace, the Trustees and the Council are all committed to ensuring a bright and sustainable future for the Palace - especially bringing back the 40\\% of the place currently totally derelict back into full usage.

The link I have sent you above links to a letter from myself which sets this out more clearly.

I hope you and your readers find it of interest.

Best wishes
Cllr Matt Cooke
Chairman of the Board, Ally Pally

Dear Matt

I found your sustainable vision most interesting.

I'm not, however, impressed by your promises on revamping the world's first TV studios.

It is also said that the disused TV studios should be revived. Yet these studios are as much about the BBC's heritage as they are that of the charity, and the BBC has made it clear it will not fund such a restoration. Despite this, the Trustees' good faith is evident in the fact that there is provision in the lease for the creation of a museum of television on the site, should there prove to be support from the television industry, sufficient finance to create it, a credible business plan and an adequate and safe route for public access can be found.

That last sentence is a complete cop-out, and I'm saddened that these studios (which I have visited) are more likely to end up a restaurant and fitness centre than a museum.

DG,

Mr Trebus lived on Crouch End Hill. Can't remember which number but I believe it was the last one before the off licence. (You used to be able to tell easily which one it was by all the crap piled up in the garden, but now it's been cleared.)

Dear DG,

Ally Pally is ace, although the Phoenix pub inside it is a khazi.

Best wishes,
Inspector Sands.
