I also had my first senior fall last year, 90° left over an unnoticed kerb while diagonally crossing an empty road late at night. It was a shock, a dent to the ego, and my damaged left wrist caused constant pain for three months. So be relieved if you got away with bruising.

A petition was started in February to get double-decker buses on the 235,when I checked it did not have many signatures. During the school run time they additionally have the 635 on the route which is double decker

Falls sadly get more common as you age and I also had one this week. A step with a bright yellow line to warn you which I totally missed seeing. Likewise on concrete. Spent the following morning in our urgent care centre where xrays showed I had not fractured my wrist but aches in my ribs continue. Oh the joys of getting old.

I must emphasise that pavement falls are not the preserve of the elderly and infirm. Your experience closely mirrors one I had a few yards away from Middlesbrough railway station, at the grand old age of 39!

For genuine old-age tumbles I would recommend avoiding a fall whilst simultaneously doing an ankle-pivot. That way spells a complex fracture and weeks confined to the sofa.

It's not the falls - it's the frequency of falls, it'll reach a stage where the fall will occur at the 'wrong' time, 3 o'clock in the morning and you've hit your head on the toilet bowl, early evening during a walk in the woods, just after the carer left and you were just bending down to pick up the remote.

Sorry to be gloomy - but try to fall over where you'll be noticed.

Section 22 is the muddiest, most flood prone section by far. I nearly came a cropper last year, having met some walkers who'd been forced to turn back, but fortunately managed to squelch through.

If you ask for a printed Chiltern timetable you get an unwieldy wad of A4 paper, no better than printing it yourself at home if you're able apart from saving on ink/paper. The full Chiltern timetable is impossible to read on a phone for any journey involving a change of train, so you end up having to trust a journey planner to tell you what to do rather than seeing the options. Grrr.

Private schools tend to have a longer teaching week than state schools (e.g. lessons later Mon-Fri plus lessons on Saturdays), hence why they have shorter terms.

It's a similar story at Oxbridge: Lectures and labs right until the end of the day plus lectures/labs on a Saturday.

NB I never went to either private school or Oxbridge: Too dumb/poor.

Caught the 434 as usual today and went all the way to Caterham just because I could and for the scenic ride around Kenley heights. Thanks for reminding me. Only publicity I have seen is on one stop in Coulsdon. Only three people alighted on the extended part of the route but it was clear in at least one case it has transformed the passenger's life - as she delighted in telling the driver.

I went to a private school which had 8.20am-6pm days four out of six (M-Tu-Th-F), and what were laughably called half-days which finished at 4pm for the other two (W-Sa). I was very glad for the nine weeks of summer hols!

A truly remarkable result for buzzword bingo involving my life, ranging chronologically from Burnt Oak to Marylebone and Sudbury Hill to Sundridge Park (in my dreams) to Keston Mark (in reality and in my dreams) to Bank, plus unfortunate timing family-wise to read about a fall. Even Kenley and Grove Park score peripherally, with Heathrow thrown in for both my first ever flight and a Concorde day trip birthday present from an ex girlfriend. Join a Judo club. The first thing they teach you is how to fall. I've never forgotten and at 77 survived several trip-falls, including off a bike, without too much damage.

Bank adverts and underground generally: my current on-off prize for an advert on the network for small demographic is for hosted ecommerce website solution "shopify".

Ignore the fact that the advert highlights retailers that proudly use it.

Even smaller is their competitor BigCommerce, last seen in 2024 in the weeks surrounding a specific trade show. On one occasion at least posted side by side in an underground carriage
