Hahaha!

The lost rivers was your series I've enjoyed the most over the past n years - hugely interesting but mostly all new to me.

Will be buying a copy of Paul's book - you should work in advertising...

Of course, if you were a blogger who wanted to remain anonymous, it be a good idea to come up with a story about how you never managed to finish your book.

Thank you Paul for a fantastic blog ;)

From the Sample Chapter page, spelling error. Hope this doesn't set the tone of the book.

"To give you an idea o (sic) the book here is a sample draft chapter "

It was indeed an excellent idea for a book and I'm sure DG's would have been great....and maybe one day it will be.

The sample chapter of this alternative version, however, does not appeal to me at all.

I'm amazed that you are giving it the oxygen of publicity.

I suspect that it's going to sell a lot of copies to your readers who think it's been a double bluff.

BW - why wouldn't DG help a fellow author? It shows him to be a big-hearted chap, and not the dog-in-a-manger some people might have been in the same situation.

this Paul guy lives south of the river according the amazon description, not our guy.

disgruntled - I was viewing from the perspective of who makes the money out of book sales... and remembering the contract they wanted DG to sign.

Nicholas Barton wrote "The Lost Rivers of London" back in the 1960s, which was then reprinted in the 1990s. Clearly there can be more than one book on the subject but to say that this new title fills a gap in the market is incorrect.

Put me down as double-bluff buyer....er Paul?

I. Have. Not. Written. A. Book.

Oh, me too! Definitely "a damned good idea for a book."
It's got a "pick me up and buy me" cover too!

I guess it isn't a double bluff. It seems Paul Tanning also wrote a book entitiled "Derelict London" in 2008, and given 4.5 stars, no less, by Amazon reviewers!

No, I don't believe DG is Paul Talling. They've got different styles.

Mr T’s book is an “introduction to” type of book by the looks of it, pocket-sized and priced at a level that does not deter would-be buyers. The photos in the sample chapter are first-class but the prose is limited and rather stodgy.
DG’s ideal rivery book, with its landscape photos and inspired descriptive writing, pausing now and then to look at the scenery or to take a little meander, would be a joy to own but cost rather a lot.

Sorry BW - I'm with disgruntled on this one. Why would you begrudge the people that finally produced it their royalty? Nobody's gonna become JK Rowling out of it.

Hmmm. I don't think it is a double-bluff. I mean... he'd hardly have done a series of posts about lost rivers >here<, if he all the time knew that there could be money to be made by saving it all and keeping it all for the book
Maybe it'd be cool if he (dg) was PT, because I like photos of abandonment... but I'm satisfied there's enough evidence to suggest that he isn't.

I. Have. Not. Written. A. Book.

"I Have Not Written A Book..." Yet. :D

Ah - now the reveal! I was on the Derelict London site some weeks ago and saw the write up for this book. It did remind me at the time of your series, and I'm looking forward to reading it. I'm sorry it's not your book, DG, but interest and passion are totally key to writing a book, especially when you work full time, blog full-time, and have a bit of a life! Maybe there will be another book idea that comes up that seizes you this way, but it will be your own, in your style - as that is the reason people come back to your blog after all.
