It's intriguing that the Dangleway is the only project on TfL's extended list where the milestone deadline is an entire season, rather than a specific month.

I have seen the RV1 bus along the Southbank with its Hydrogen gas cylinders on the roof.

I am intrigued by:July 2012, "station wi-fi brought into beneficial use" for whose benefit? are we going to have free wi-fi on the stations as is often provided in coffee shops and some coaches. Will it be on the surface stations only?

An interesting post as usual dg, thanks, I shall print off a copy, keep it,and watch tfl's progress during the coming months.

120 stations to get free wi-fi in the summer - but after the Olympics it might have to be paid for if you want to use it. http://eastlondonolympics.co.uk/tag/tube/

Milestones went out of fashion about 200 years ago - no surprise that TFL is still using them.

Apparently the contract for the wi-fi service has been awarded to Virgin Media and 80 stations will the service available in time for the Olympics, and a further 40 stations added by the end of the year. The service will be free for passengers during the Olympics and Paralympics. After the games only the tfl pages will be available free.(live travel updates etc.) Access to other services then will be on pay as you go basis.

So no further cycle hire expansion? I thought Lambeth and Wandsworth were planned for 2013.

@ DG - the use of "seasons" for deadlines is standard practice where a project is high profile but also risky. The difficult works remain o/s as does getting approval to commence operation of the dangleway. All sorts of things could go badly (or well) hence the reluctance to provide ammunition for stakeholders to use. Many of the other works on the list are well on the way to completion or have immoveable deadlines so TfL will be pretty confident about meeting them.

@ Dan - the cycle hire stuff won't be listed because expansion is dependent on multiple funding sources. Many of these sources are not yet confirmed so it would be mad to give a headline date.

The Victoria line has already slipped. If you follow the link it mentions 2012, but in that list it's a 2013 date that it's scheduled to be complete.

@ Geofftech - Not sure I agree with your view on Vic Line slippage. The upgrade works do complete this year and there is a timetable step up shortly. The usual pattern is that there are subsequent timetable enhancements and this is what the 2013 milestone refers to. A similar pattern of timetable build up is happening on the Jubilee Line and will occur for all subsequent line upgrades.

So does anyone know if the 'dangleway' is likely to open before the Olympics?

@whiff - I can state with more certainty than most that it will open before the Olympics !

I'm impressed if the Northern Line upgrades will be done by the end of 2012, bearing in mind how badly the Jubilee line signalling upgrade overran.

@PC: I refer you to Informed Sources' Third Law: Always mistrust schedules based on the seasons.

It seems that not to be outdone by its competitor Virgin Media, Sky is to offer WiFi on the overground network, and it's free.
