I hope that at least some of the people attracted to the nearby Westfield Mall will feel adventurous. And explore both Shepherds Bush Market and the shops by Shepherd's Bush Green and along Goldhawk and Uxbridge Roads.

Shopping's not really my thing.(Although I was disappointed to see that the cheap CD store near the Green seems to have gone.) In ther market Zena and our friend Larry both found bargains.

And we all enjoyed Mr Falafel.

The people who own the market need to make public toilets a priority.

West12 seems to have had a remarkable ability to survive. Five years ago it was more than half empty. Quite how it never shut down I will not understand.

I think Morrisons is one reason locals go to West12, as the only other large supermarkets in that area, with reasonable prices are Tesco in Shepherds Bush Road,(the old Atlas lamp factory) and Sainbury's at the Harrow Road end of Ladbroke Grove.
Hope you called in at Cookes in Goldhawk Road for some pie and mash!

We didn't try the pie & mash, John. Not least because the tasty Falafel was so filling!

I was interested in Diamond Geezer's comment about the new library. He linked to the Hammersmith & Fulham website which boasts that it's "one of the most exciting and innovative libraries in the country". With Cllr Chris Bristow describing it as the "jewel in the crown of London capital libraries".

Is it? I was thinking of a paying a visit.

Shepherd's Bush Library may be innovative, but no way is it "one of the most exciting libraries in the country". Some councillors do talk over-hyped rubbish sometimes.

Yeah, we certainly do.
But then look at the video on YouTube and imagine it from the viewpoint of Cllr Chris Bristow.
A two million quid new library paid for by Westfield. *And* he got to meet Benjamin Chang.
Not to mention Paxman.

Shepherds Bush market may also have a stall open at 07:45 that will sell you a shirt, socks and underwear all for less than £15 if you have forgotten to load your pannier on your bike. Please do not ask me how I know this.

Ham, how do you know this?

When the tube station got renamed to 'Shepherds Bush Market, you said that you didn't think that 'A market selling tea towels' merited having a tube station named after it - has it got better in the last few years?

They should have called the tube station 'Uxbridge Road', anyway. Far more sensible all road.

And Westfield Stratford is hideous compared to the W12 one, yup.

I take that back. Your blog post of 15th October 2008, actually says:

"» New station named after: a long string of characterful stalls beneath the railway viaduct, many of them Sikh-run, selling clothing and Afro-Caribbean food and all the usual market staples, and about as far away from the Westfield megabucks chainstore experience as it's possible to ge"

Hmm. Who made the tea towel comment then? must have been someone else.

Boudoir caps? Do they mean headwear, or ...

No, I must be thinking of an entirely different sort of cap.

BBC cutback plans announced 6th October: "phased, but full, exit from BBC premises in west London including TV Centre and the White City buildings".

So that's goodbye to the BBC's entire presence in Hammersmith and Fulham. Blimey. And ouch.

As a postscript to the above, I was interested to see Chris Underwood's Shepherd's Bush blog on 6 November 2010.
Chris describes how five Westfield security staff tried to stop four librarians protesting outside the library. The security staff explained that the pavement was owned by Westfield. They also asked Chris to stop recording the protest.

Utterly disgraceful, you'll agree. How dare these librarians try to derail the nation's economic recovery?

Apologies that the link I posted to Chris Underwood's blog didn't work. This does:
