I think you might be needing the irony flag here before you get loads of comments ...

Wow, it sounds like the posh bits of Cornwall (where I grew up)! They have a similar ethnic diversity consultation process there, which is to ask him if he's all right.

Actually I think Cornwall's a bit more diverse now. I tend to keep well clear as I have an advanced case of ruraphobia: the fear of accidentally moving to the countryside. Sounds like I should probably give Henley a wide berth as well

Well if Boris gets in, we can all move out to Henley! We'll still be safe!

Very funny DG - inspired even...

Let's face it Henley is perfect for Boris and vice versa. Trouble is, despite all the good natured humour and buffoonery, he's a raging Tory at heart and would be a disaster for London ....

Henley lives in spite of Boris not because of him.

There seems to be a hint of sarcasm here. Still, Boris Johnson seems to be doing a good job with Henley judging by what you've written, but being mayor of London will be a whole different kettle of fish. I would imagine managing a city of 7½ million people is very different from managing a commuter town of 10,000.

UK's least affordable town for first time buyers...average house price (2007) GBP642,672.

Did you do a circular walk,dg? Not terribly exciting from what I see, ditto the town blog.
Balamory seems a much more diverse community in comparison.

you have described about Henley! but you haven't proofed that Boris is a experienced person

Hmmm. Of course Boris isn't qualified to be mayor of London.

Having recently moved out of inner london to Southend, the...well, complacent electioneering of my local conservative candidate (assured to get in, more or less) is revealing, too...

Following complaints that there is no bus service to the bit of town I live in (because the solidly conservative council withdrew all funding for public transport a few years ago), the tory candidate is delighted to announce that a service is to start running down the main high street in Westcliff, to Southend Hospital.

Well, good.

The catch?

One bus an hour, one day a week (Thursday), six months trial (presumably daytimes, or possibly midday only), to see if anyone uses it. (Given the limited nature of the service this seems doubtful)

I don't THINK Boris would try quite the same trick with the 25, but quietly revealing in its way.

Very funny.. but did you know that there are people who believe that MPs run just about everything (one of the odder facts coming out of the focus groups for the Jenkins Report on voting systems, if you must know). Don't encourage them, for heaven's sake.

Mind you, there is (sadly) now a vacancy in a job that's just perfect for Boris: chairing I'm Sorry, I Haven't A Clue.

I posted my thoughts about Boris on my blog after seeing him at the Stonewall hustings two weekends ago - it's seriously scary to think what he might do in London if he's allowed to take the reins... Do you know that his campaign team had the temerity to produce some 'Back Boris' oystercard wallets? I won't tell you the treatment people tend to receive at LU ticket windows waving one of those about... : (I did try to get hold of one due to the potential future 'Ebay' value of such an item, but they've run out)
Ah well, current polls don't seem to be doing him any favours - I just think it's important for londoners to actually vote... this is one election where the outcome will directly affect all of us who live or work in the capital

Henley nicer than "world class" London?

It cannot be true!

According to the bookies this race is all over. Boris has won. If you think Ken has a chance get to your bookies asap.

And, for you Beatles fans, this is the town where George Harrison settled down to become a gentleman gardener. He loved this town.

Unfortunately, his Henley home, Friar Park, was the site of the break-in and nearly deadly assault of George in 1999.

I've not yet been, but I understand that it is a lovely place, even from the outside. I will visit Henley in September 2009.

Thanks, DG!

God help us if the bookies are right and that buffoon gets in.

Y'know, with that choice of candidates I'm so thankful I live elsewhere! Feeling somewhat concerned for my in-laws though, who will be more directly affected.
