NZ authorities were well prepared for the current wave of the Delta variant getting past the border, and the whole country is now in lockdown. Case numbers are rising, as expected, but they are all within defined areas and not spreading randomly. They should (hopefully) start going down this week. The ultimate aim is to get back to being Covid-free again – it’s not an impossible target.

Iceland is coming to the end of a fourth wave, but because they have a high vaccination rate there had been no Covid related deaths from May until a couple of days ago, the point being that a high vaccination rate didn't stop the spread of the Delta variant, but it did significantly reduce fatalities.
So we need booster shots, and then another set of booster shots after that?, and repeat until????, and in some places you have to show your vaccination status to enter restaurants (New York), or in France to show the police even if your just to sitting outside a cafe eating or drinking.

For a moment, I got excited by the idea that variants had moved on to the Icelandic alphabet with "ð", but then realised it was a "δ".

I think we're in for a very bad autumn & winter.
People are treating it as just another cold/flu bug (albeit a very virulent one) and that's probably just what it's going to be from now on - especially since the government announced 'as you were, ... but be careful.'

The plural of anecdote is not data, I know, but I had my AZ vaccines at the end of March and end of May and I've been in bed for the last five days with Covid-19. I dread to think how bad it would have been had I not been double jabbed. :-(
