Croydon’s position can’t be helped by it being bankrupt, but is disappointing as the Borough has some of the best walking in London as you (DG) have previously noted. Thankfully maps still function on paper for this person and it’s getting to the point in which I’ve walked so much locally that the map is now in my brain.
To help make up for Lambeth, here is a self-made map of walks concentrating on parks and green spaces with links to information on the London-wide GoParks website.
The Bromley circular walks are excellent!
If some of the councils that have removed pdfs of the detail are anything like my council it’s because there’s a growing trend to say PDFs aren’t accessible (as screen readers struggle with them). Why accessibility for the 99.9% of people who don’t use the screen readers isn’t considered is beyond me.
the Beckenham and Chislehurst link for Bromley just ... reload you blog page, even though when you hover it references a PDF. odd.

There's a lot to see out there. Even if councils aren't producing the trails and maps themselves, they should coordinate better with volunteer groups, many of which have produced some decent maps and trails of their own.
All of the most interesting walks near me need the use of public transport to get to/home from which has scuppered my enjoyment for most of the past year now.
The question is - do I take the bus to the walk now, while they're nearly empty, or wait until we're given the green light, when they'll be busy again - not least with mask-less school kids!

By the way, your link to the Willow Tree Wander (Hillingdon) goes to the Celandine Route walk instead!

This is great, thank you. Is there a way you can engineer a permalink or a specific link to this post ? i would like to be able to refer to it in my Favourites folder "walks". Many thanks.

dg writes: All posts have a permalink (at the foot of the post). This one is [link].
It's very generous of five-star Southwark to donate their flagship "Southwark" walk to no-star Lambeth. Lambeth should provide a link!

dg writes: it's not the 'flagship Southwark walk', that's my ill-advised abbreviation for the "rebels and revolutionaries walk starting at Brandon Library". But yes, it is mostly in Lambeth.
It's a shame that the Wandsworth council doesn't have links to the Wandle and Beverley Brook walks.

But then council seems to be very car focussed.
Whilst Wandsworth reference the audio walks from the Putney Society they could do worse than also direct people towards the Summerstown182 website, which currently has a large number of carefully curated historical walks around Tooting and Earlsfield.
The nearest Newham gets are a few out-of-date links on the ActiveNewham site. If it doesn't appeal to Newham's minority of subsidised car drivers, Newham don't want to know.
there are a handful of heritage walks on the Barnet website here - not sure why they are not linked from any of the other 'walking in Barnet' pages.

"Lewisham's unusual approach is to encourage everyone to walk to Blackheath from wherever they live"

Brilliant, DG. So that's why the heath is always so packed on sunny days.

I write as someone who's lived in the Greenwich side of Blackheath for 32 years, but I've also lived in Lewisham and Lambeth in my time.
Does Kingston get one star for this link? (Click on the "Walking" tab)

The separate page for "walking and cycling" is, I agree, misnamed as all seven links relate to cycling.
Tower Hamlets site is a mess.
There seems to be several orphaned pages, like this one from the 2009/2010 walks from East End Life. You can access some more walks from the menu (sometimes with maps), but “walks” in menu is a 404.
Plus you can look at pdfs of Our East End and East End Life, some of which feature walks, but no joined up thinking to put the content here onto the Walks Page.
Very Odd when they’re supposedly promoting walks for health benefits
Thank you for posting these. I live in Southwark and we've decided to try one of their walks on Sunday around Bermondsey. I work for a one-star borough. Shame on them, I might highlight the poor show/comparative shaming to the walking officer!
Interesting that Haringey's downloadable walk is of a route no part of which is in Haringey.
Kingston moved to a new website recently. Lots of old pages were missing but some have been slowly added again so the old walking pages may re-emerge
Newham has a not-very-useful leaflet which includes walking routes here.
The Enfield Society publish a very good footpath map of the Borough. There are a number of permissive footpaths over the Green Belt which do not appear on other maps.
Not a great effort from Havering...what a let down. I have forwarded your blog
At least Newham is consistent in always being one of the worst London boroughs in almost any category.
I know you want to get back to Sutton but are perhaps put off by the lack of online walks. Someone has just given me a leaflet entitled 'Sutton Countryside Walk', published by the council. It's nicely produced, with a good map including bus/train info, and it's printed on hefty paper which I think will withstand a few March winds and April showers. They say to allow 3 hours for the walk so Id guess you'll make it round in 1.5.
