Had I known you were heading this way, I could have given you a quick tour of the interesting and geeky bits of TV Centre that the official tour doesn't show you. Like where the broom cupboard once was (it was demolished); where the never-used replacement was built (now a store room); and the corridors and stairwells that seem to lead nowhere. Or back on themselves. It's such a haphazard building, that's both frustrating and great to work in. It'll be a shame to see it close.

Actually we had 405 line TV before 625 lines started,-not 425 which you have in your article.

Don't forget the still functioning Shepherds Bush Empire Theatre was for many years the BBC TV Theatre and programmes which required a studio audience often took place in that building. -"Crackerjack" with Eamond Andrews being one of them.

I think it's a real shame they are vacating; it's not any old TV complex but a huge part of late-20th century British culture. One day in the future a Wannamaker will rebuild a replica of TV Centre nearby to show what it was like...

I saw Crackerjack at the Empire. I was in the cubs. We met in Lime Grove and walked round. I didn't get picked for the cabbage game. Well, I'm still going and where's Crackerjack, eh? That'll teach 'em.

@John and Dave - You forgot the "Hooray".
Re Lime Grove - presumably Bill and Ben were also done there. Bet you the only thing left is a "Little Weed" (probably quite a lot of it!!!!)

As a now ex-BBC member of staff I worked in the Media Village (Broadcast Centre) but going to TVC as we called it was always lovely. It felt special - a huge reminder that you're working for a broadcaster. That you're employed by an organisation that creates something special.

It's an amazing place and will be a loss to the BBC no matter what the current management say

Ditto, also an an ex-BBC member of staff also based in Broadcast Centre! It was never a patch on TVC, and sadly the closure of it just re-inforces how un-BBC the BBC has become. It's just another tick-boxing, policy drive organisation that is nothing special anymore. Shame.

White City was always nicknamed "White Elephant" when I was there because it was so damn ugly. It had a good lunchtime canteen though. And I once stalked Matt Smith on the secret fire exit stairs round the back that the ONE show used a lot to get the stars in and out. Fun times.

As a third ex-BBC staffer, I'd also like to say what a fascinating and amazing building TV Centre is - it's insanity to get rid of it, especially as the studios see more use now than they did a decade or so ago.

The park's lovely - or at least is when it's clean. Never realised it was donated by the BBC.

Never spent much time in the Broadcast Centre or Media Centre, but the main office block at White City is grim, and awful to work in. To think they knocked down White City Stadium for that...

Great memories locked up in that building. It will be shame when it's gone.

Where is Hammersmith Park? It does not appear on Google Maps.

Other maps are available...
