Your ironic posts are the ones I enjoy most. Thanks for my morning giggle.
The only problem with such posts is the urge to keep checking back on the comments page for the first person to take DG's words too literally.
You may intend irony but bluntly, with one exception, I totally agree with you. On the rare occasions when I am out, if someone approaches me, I do step away because I cannot be certain that they will leave the required distance. In the nearest town to which I live, it would be nice just once to see a policeman patrol, breaking up the groups of people standing around chatting. The pandemic will be beaten soon but it would be a lot quicker if we all followed what you, ironically or not, suggest.
What a great post, I love it.
That was a long one DG, I've now got crispy and singed bacon.
Frequent mentions of the R number imply that most infected people spread it to 1 or 2 people, and if only everyone slightly reduces their contact, rates will go down.

However, the science tells a different story - 80% of infections come from 10% of infected people, and most infected people spread it to noone.

So in reality most infections come from events like a large group of people, one of whom is infected, coming together for an ill-advised meeting or dinner lasting some hours, and all coming away infected, and the chance of being infected from standing slightly closer than recommended for a few seconds is virtually zero.
I have never understood why people Go Out for a Coffee. It is so much simpler to make a nice cup of instant coffee at home while you're busy doing something else.

And it could save you a fortune.
Also I don't understand why people insist on buying a pastry with their coffee when Tesco do a perfectly adequate value pack of croissants more cheaply.
If everyone was like you we would all be too busy writing blogs and not enough time to read yours!
OUCH! Someone's punctured by self-satisfied smugness :-) And I was feeling so good about myself too...
leave my coffee habits out of it DG, it's my favourite all time luxury - and how can you have coffee on its own, its too wet so of course you need something with it
You go out? How utterly reckless. Everyione should be like me and do just like you do but without going out at all.
Not radical enough.

If you are serious about wiping out the virus then the obvious solution is to cull the human population which is the cause of transmission.

Problem solved.
Almost as much BOLX as yesterday's post!!
One year on, the scientists know a lot about the virus and how it behaves. What I haven't come across is a comparable understanding of humans and how they behave in response to the virus. Is a science of human behaviour possible?
Dear DG
'Also I've already had the virus so I can't catch it again' is the ONLY bit in your whole piece that I did not agree with, taking (on this rare occasion) your post at face value.
In any situation in life, its always 10% that spoil it for everyone else... and that's why we're in this mess.
Keep safe!
Your post had me humming the tune of the Brazilian song "Se todos fossem iguais a você" :)

Like you I feel amazed of people making the decision that having a take-away coffee right now is somehow more important than risking someone else's death.
My better half who works in a DIY store inexplicably designated essential reports that it is inundated with families on a day out with small children not at school swarming all over the aisles playing with the tools and substances and spraying virus everywhere. It's the couldn't give a sh*t society!
Exactly. Everyone needs to be banned from the parks in the afternoon except for myself and DG as only us can be trusted to behave properly
Having been tested on Saturday and found to be a positive person, I am now inundated with messages from NHS T+T imploring me to access my account, using an ID of much randomness and no compensating memorability, together with a password which is in some location known only to the likes of Douglas Adams characters.
Of course this post is an exaggeration etc, but you can't expect people to self-isolate if it means being fired/evicted/going hungry. You can't blame ‘rule breakers’ for covid spread when many workplaces are open completely legally. People need support, and too many are slipping through the cracks.
You and me will be the only ones left alive!
IMO Lidl croissants are better than Tesco, but negligible Covid precautions in my local one. So I've only had occasional Sainsbury's (delivered) frozen ones since September. But they're made in France, so they may go out of stock, or get more expensive.
Two things about human behaviour to note - different people have different priorities, and habits are very hard to change. Put together this means that other people look dumb in your eyes, but to their eyes, you look dumb. Never going to be any different so all you can do is accept it.
There wouldn't be wars in the world if everyone behaved like me. I don't start a war, because I don't need to, so nobody should really.
Love these satirical posts of yours! This pandemic has surfaced a common personality trait among humans: The "everybody is stupid except me". Everyone else is a Covidiot, but my actions are essential, because reasons.
In terms of human psychology, I believe it comes under the Prisoner Dilemma. Unfortunately, the population of the UK are the prisoners...
I know you're being sarky, but shit, I could've written this post - I had no idea I was an introvert.
The Prime Minister could have written this post, if he was driven the 7 miles to do exercise in the Olympic Park!
Many a true word spoken in jest...

Looks like the PM cycled out to look for you in one of your favourite haunts yeterday.
I don't understand why Prime Ministers go cycling in the afternoon. The Olympic Park is much busier in the afternoon, from what I've seen, so it makes much more sense to go cycling in the morning instead.
“The Olympic Park is much busier in the afternoon, from what I’ve seen”. So, you’ve been there then. You are the deepest-dyed kind of hypocrite, and I renounce your blog entirely....
DG is a Great Man.
May his genes be passed down the ages
It the PM were like DG he wouldn't cycle anyway, so we'd all be so much better off.
New Conspiracy theory - DG is the PM. Don't do as I do, do as I say... :-))
The PM is an avid reader of DG’s blog and was out looking to see if he could see the kingfisher during his daily exercise
My son works in a London hospital and has been able to stay infection free all year . He got a call from one of his co-workers who he met when he went for his jab on Friday as she has tested positive and now he has the virus. All could have been avoided if he hadn’t gone for his vaccination !!
