You forgot to mention Clattern Bridge opp the Coronation Stone. The oldest bridge in Surrey still in use. Clattern Bridge dates back to 1293. The bridge that crosses the Hogsmill is one of the oldest recorded bridges in the south of England and a beautiful often overlooked architctural gem

Oh, I love those phone boxes!

Kingston would be a marvellous borough if someone levelled the town centre. The shopping and associated traffic nightmare just mark it as second only to the West End as somewhere to avoid at all costs.

There is a Seven Kings car park as well. Lets hope you had lunch at a riverside pub, as well as sampling the bits that are outside Kingston (although knowing you, you did).

Oh, my 'lovely' hometown - you could firebomb the place and no one would miss it.

The shopping mall: prototype for Ballard's Kingdome Come?

Otter - almost certainly. I recall reading a piece in a literary journal (online) somewhere a few years back, with both Ballard and Iain Sinclair, with much talk of the Cathedral of Commerce that is the Bentalls Centre, Kingston.

Thogh truthfully I think the (paranoid, aggressive, extreme nationalist) mentality encapsulated in "Kingdom Come" is far more commonly found in some of the villages and towns around Lakeside, Thurrock than in those around Kingston. But not that I know Hampton Hill et all that well....

Bentalls isn't really Bentalls anymore-it's Fenwick. Betalls overextended intself some years ago and was headed for the retail graveyard when Beales bought the stores. I guess Beales sold this one to Fenwick.

We used to have a Bentalls in Ealing then it became a Beales then it closed down. Now it's Primark. Evolution in reverse.

Bentalls is a Fenwick now? :o

There is actually a reasonably interesting mosaic of the seven kings at one of the exits to the Eden Walk centre. Or interesting enough for everyone who went to school round there to have had to draw a copy at least once...
