The electronic signs on the M11 / A1 all still say 'MINIMISE TRAVEL'.

Delivery drivers are telling me that the roads are dreadful again - one said on Friday, that the volumes were worse than at peak holiday times.
I was out for a walk yesterday around noon, and the A4 in Hammersmith was so busy heading out of London that I was walking faster than the traffic was moving.

I have been commuting throughout the pandemic as I am working at a grocery store (and thus need to go into work). It has been interesting to see how traffic has ebbed and flowed throughout each lockdown and opening up.
I caught a 142 in Watford on Friday for a journey and time not of my choosing(16:20). Every seat on the top deck was taken on departure from Water Lane. We did not pick up any more passengers until Bushey Heath. At least everyone I could see had a mask on.
My experience over the last year has been that, following the initial couple of months where nobody was sure what was happening or would happen, the extent of lockdown has largely been determined by (a) what has been allowed to open and then (b) some distance behind, those people who choose to add their own additional protections.
I don’t think many people are still sitting indoors waiting for Hancock etc to tell them what they are or aren’t “allowed” to do anymore now.
I was doing all that pre-Covid!
Which is why the lockdowns had very little impact on my life other than no longer being able to escape to the more isolated footpaths via public transport!
I spotted this advice on a train company website whilst looking for trains for a walking holiday I had just booked. But then that's hopefully happening in July so if we're lucky the advice will have changed by then.
Now that crowds are starting to be permitted at events, the whole lockdown thing is becoming untenable, in some areas the buses are 'full', and there aren't the resources to put on any more extras to maintain social distancing, so they'll have to drop the restrictions.
I find it hard to keep up! The resumption of holidays in self-contained holiday lets led me to think that the advice about travel was a little more relaxed than it really is. Really surprising to see that we are still being asked to minimise the amount we travel. I tend to think of myself as someone who follows the rules, but have already unwittingly stepped beyond minimal travel.
You can see the lack of logic from the government just in your posts today, essential travel but 3000 clubbers at a pilot event! Perhaps because it is sponsored by the DoH for research it’s actually ok.
I live next to the A3 in South London. Last year in March it was fairly quiet then in April the traffic picked up to near normal levels and has been ever since. Apart from delivery vehicles I've wondered where all the private cars are going - especially in the lockdown when all the non essential shops were closed.
Here we have the difference between law and guidance.

We are no longer forced to stay in our homes by law, but we should still keep non-essential travel to a minimum while coronavirus cases come down.
