I lived in Birmingham for 5 years and looking back am embarrassed by how few places like this I visited.
Pedantry alert - I assume you mean Charles I and not his father James ! dg writes: Fixed, thanks. |
Bingo!
Well - two out of three anyway. Visited the football ground via the Aston Expressway 20 years ago to watch the Czech Republic beat Portugal 1-0 in a quarter final match in the European Championships as a present for my Polish father in law. My over abiding memory was that the road was far more scary when lightly trafficked, as then it was in poor condition and Lane markings faint with no coloured tarmac to help matters. The sheer width of it without any reference markers made it feel like like cars in the opposing direction were heading straight for us due to the road's slight but almost constant curvature. Yes, I could have stayed in the inside lane, but where's the fun in that! |
Apparently, one lane is always closed, so it's either 3-X-3, 4-X-2 or 2-X-4, not as scary as DG seems to make out (3-4 / 4-3)

As an ex regular-user of the Expressway, John is correct - it's really not scary at all. The city centre section with its closely-spaced junctions and underpasses is much more nerve-wracking for the inexperienced driver!
This has now reminded me I should check and see if DG has ever experienced the civil engineering wonder that is the Coventry Ring Road... |
