Careful if you do walk along the beach. There is a firing range a few miles west of Weymouth. When they are firing you can't walk along the beach and I'm not sure they put red flags on the beach (only the coast path behind the fleet). Best to ring first to find out if they are firing.

It is indeed no place to be in a storm, as I found to my dismay late last year. Perhaps the bleakest place I've ever been, and I grew up in Grimsby.
