Gun crime in London parks?

Nothing new then.

So where do you stick the plaque then? If you nail it to a tree do you lose your award if it is used as a mugging weapon within 12 months? The chances are it will be stolen anyway

"This award's only for parks where people currently get the willies."

Is Hampstead Heath a park then? ;)
(sorry, I'll get me cloak...)

Oh, I suppose we were more or less due a -policy - perhaps even an -action, and above all one that wasn't devised and put into motion by his predecessor - from Boris by now, given that it is, well, the best part of 3 years since he became mayor, so I suppose we should be glad that he is earning his keep, etc. Oh, he's not. What a surprise.

When I lived in Dagenham I remember reaing about (and seeing the evidence of) local yoof using chainsaws to cut down trees in one of the local parks (Old Dagenham, if you were wondering) of an evening. Which must have annoyed the glue-sniffers by removing their privacy belt along Ballards Road.

It MIGHT be a bit better there now, perhaps.

Cottons Park in Romford has a slight air of menace about it, too, IMHO.

Hmmm. Memories of living next door to Mile End Park. DG, you might feel safe there, but I never did coming home in the dark. In fact, the local police Safer Neighbourhood Team advised me never to walk through the park alone *even in daylight*! I never felt unsafe early in the morning when the local yoof were all asleep...
I haven't missed this place one bit since I moved; not the litter, the chicken bones and boxes, the plastic cups from boozing teenage boys, the males (including non-locals using the football pitches) using the park as a toilet in broad daylight (cheers, guys).
I just might do Boris's questionnaire.
(Sorry for the grumble!)

Interesting post DG

Presumably, if the consensus is that a park is scary, the cheap/expedient/predictable thing would be to build flats on it. Hence the inclusion of minute patches of grass.

Hmmm - a bit of wasteland behind The Valley and Blackheath rugby club's pitch also appear on Boris's parks map.

In Walthamstow they have included the grounds of the Orford Road Social Club on the map. I would definitely feel a bit scared if I was there, I would be trespassing on private property.

Has Andrewh been mugged in a dangerous park? He always used to comment here.
