So, the original Grand Stand? Very interesting.

Aye, it's an interestingly bizarre place and I feel for those manning it too...the only time there's a crowd is when there's a school trip I suspect (special openings?).

Oh dear DG...you missed the Mummers Play and the Elizabethan music consort there last Sunday which I accidentally caught, having visited the Lodge on a whim. (a Twelfth Night special)

Back down the hill to Chingford, I-Spy the Masonic Lodge.

Very interesting! I'd think the next movie they make about Henry VIII really ought to have a scene featuring Henry hunting out of the top floor of his lodge.

Move over Bambii!

Thank you, most fascinating, that Henry got about a bit didn't he, as there is quite a lot of Henry's houses/palaces in the Surrey area, i.e. Nonsuch and Whitehall. What with having 6 wives and eating a lot, his main hobby seemed to be hunting. Did he have much time to do any reigning?

A fascinating article. One thing I love about this country is that IMHO we seem to do a far better job of preserving our historic buildings than many other countries. However, saying that, even we make foolish mistakes - Euston station anyone? I do wonder whether any 'functional' modern buildings will still be standing five centuries later.

Nevertheless, it seems that when the Tudors wanted to do a spot of hunting, they really wanted to do it in style!
