It probably has no connection but reading this has made me search out and listen to PETER SELLERS - 'Balham, - Gateway To The South' from 1958
The OSM Admin was on the ball with the OSM forum postings, reverting the change on Thursday night: www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/115855550
Last paragraph updated thanks.

OpenStreetMap summary
up to Wednesday: Balaam St numbered B116
Wednesday: road renumbered B166 (in response to this blog & common sense)
Thursday: road renumbered B116 (in response to forum discussion and administrative reality)
The words Balaam Leisure Centre strike dread in this household. School swimming lessons for our (Stratford based) now adult kids were held at the Atherton Leisure Centre on Romford Road (A118) but for a period this was out of action and coach trips were necessary to Balaam. The shonkiest transport possible was always obtained and the usual moans about dodging manky plasters and cigarette butts in the changing rooms were added to with bad tempered bus drivers and parents left waiting in the cold. These day the same school takes kids to the Olympic pool for lessons. But it's such a shame when local pools - a haven for the old and arthritic - have to shut up shop.
That tree looks undamaged and the stain is just on the road, was it merely accident adjacent?

A typing error on a database makes it 'official', both amusing and scary at the same time.
Anyone called Archibald Buttle should quake in fear.
The Ordnance Survey are not always the last word. I've caught them out a couple of times in recent years differing both from definitive footpath maps and from reality on the ground, and on one case with a disagreement between their 1:25000 and 1.50000 maps.
In my mind Diamond Geezer has done an investigatory article on it, therefore it must exist.
“This means I now have to subject you to a mundane half mile through Plaistow. I hate to think what my horde of new followers is going to think.”
Well, this old follower thinks it’s fascinating, whatever.

Your B road apologies appear to be tongue-in-cheek, or maybe you are genuinely distressed by subjecting us to these accounts. This one’s a little gem anyway, complete with the nice account and pictures of clouded blue sky thinking.
I love every bit of this, and so should the hordes of new followers! The best bits, of course, are the clouds.
I also thought of Balham, Gateway To The South and then thought of Balaam and the Angel.
I’d like to add that I enjoyed a fish supper from Uncle Jim’s last night and it was very fine.
One thing I miss about living in Belgium is the complete lack of fish suppers. It's chips plus maybe a sausage if you're lucky, though the chips are very good.

Another great write-up today, thanks. I think you're underselling these reports.
I am always amused by anyone that would take the time to declare their support for a public person's freedom by spelling the word FREE wrong in graffiti.
You always paint such vivid pictures. Thank you - what an enjoyable tour.
I can certainly vouch for the fact that in later years the hospital treated children from the area who were suffering from ENT conditions, as I was one such patient.

In late 1954 I was taken there a couple of afternoons a week to have my throat "painted" before in early 1955 having my tonsils removed there.

Though the medical aspects weren't much fun, getting to and from there involved journeys on Trolleybuses, which were always fun to ride on.
“This means I now have to subject you to a mundane half mile through Plaistow."

On the contrary, I was very interested to read about what Balaam Street is like in the year 2022 given that I grew up about 200m away in a house adjacent to the recreation ground named after it. I was intrigued to read about its "cloud-based" claim to fame. It's a shame about the leisure centre though as that's where I was taken for swimming lessons. That feels like a very long time ago now.

(Also, this is my first time commenting here for some time. I haven't always been up to date with following the blog although I have been trying to catch up on some older posts. Of course, I had to jump straight ahead to this one given how close to home it was.)
I'm afraid you have vastly undersold London's ability to produce Dongola Roads.

Dongola Road E1
Dongola Road E13
Dongola Road N17

dg writes: Sorry, neither my A-Z nor Streetmap were aware of the E1 one.
Doing this in written form does allow you to escape the biggest question:

How do you pronounce Balaam?
