Looking at that link Copthall really is apallingly situated for public transport so I'm surprised they got panning permission. And it's ironic, of course, that not only did an old line used to pass Saracens' new stadium but that a new station and line are beiing built next to their old one.
The "crumbling pile" at Vicarage Road, i.e. the old East Stand, is no more. It's currently being demolished ahead of the construction of a new 3,000ish-seat replacement in the New Year, which is expected to be complete by Spring 2014. That will leave the oldest stand at the Vic as the Rous Stand, which was built in the mid-1980s.
Slightly perversely you can read a lot more about Mill Hill East in its entry on the Disused Stations website.

(Minor bug there in the formatting on tridentscan methinks).

is a very good account
Yay! We're talking about stations again. We all like it when we all talk about stations.
We used to dread it when we found we had a school sports fixture against Copthall Girls school, as they always thrashed us! I remember a particularly humiliating 8-1 defeat in hockey, as I was the unfortunate goalie! Tomorrow you might be walking past my old house, though as you've already done that section of the Mill Hill-Edgware route, maybe not!
I went on this walk some years ago.

It was a lovely warm day and very British. Lots of complete strangers meeting up and going for a pleasant walk from Mill Hill East to Edgware. Everyone very friendly and talking to each other. The line has a personal connection for me. My Mum used to catch the steam train from Mill Hill the Hale station to Stroud Green in the late 1930's to go to school. Strangely, the road bridge by Mill Hill the Hale station is still there. The actual station has been buried and a block of flats (what else) now occupies the site.
"There were plans in the 1930s and 1940s to revive the old line"

Can you revive something that isn't actually dead yet? Although hardly in good health in the 1930s as a result of competition from trams and the Hampstead Tube's extension to Edgware, the passenger service continued until 1939, and then only closed to allow the conversion to Tube specification.

I understand the section to Mill Hill East was prioritised as it served a barracks
Bernie, I went on that walk, too. It was a really nice day and I remember I got sunburned as it was so hot!
Ooh! An interesting (but even more time consuming) way of getting to a rugby match.

The trailer shop is to catch those unaware that there is a proper shop, for everything Saracens related, under the main East stand.
As I understand it, Saracens puts on free shuttle buses to their ground from nearby train stations. See http://www.saracenssupporters.org/wordpress/allianz-park-travel-information-for-visiting-supporters/
