please empty your brain below

Only four and a half years after you suggested using the middle of the roundabout.

I still think your plan would have been better
Over 40 years? I thought it was a bit more than that. Wasn't it 1967 or was that just the flyover?
FINALLY!!
Congratuations. Surely this is essentially half of your 2011 proposal (that is, adding pedestrian crossings to the exising traffic lights - you proposed all eight and they have done only four) with a few minor tweaks. An FOI request to TfL might bring the genesis of the implemented solution to light. I'll bet DG's proposal influenced it.
I am confused! Funds are short so why has Tfl spent presumably a significant sum on this (welcome) upgrade if a much bigger project is already in the pipeline, or is it? I reread your 30/7/15 blog and you seem to have doubts. I understand this has been a dangerous place for all and sundry so did not logic dictate: sort it all out in one go rather have piecemeal solutions, presumably in aggregate more expensive
over 40years, to get a small traffic island sorted and the locals still not happy ...mmm, sounds familar
Great Post
In the first photo in your post, is that a mirror on the top of the nearest traffic light post?

If so, why is it there?
@ John Simmons

It a 'safety mirror' for drivers of large vehicles to spot cyclists. Considering the tragic history of this junction it well placed.
@ John Simmons. Well placed but totally useless. TfL installed loads including obscure junctions such as Prince Regent Lane/Victoria Dock Rd. Useless pieces of kit, same as the staff making the decisions.
Similarly warning stickers on lorries are hopeless if the cyclist speeding up the nearside of a lorry wants to take their life in their hands....
End result entirely predictable.
Those needing to cross from Bow to the river towpath are now expected to make four crossings then head back in the direction they came from. Totally unrealistic. Removing dropped kerbs from existing unsignalised crossings will not deter the able bodied but will make it potentially more hazardous. It's a well intentioned scheme but poorly thought out and will be largely ignored by those of us who cross here every day.
Hi Dylan

Agreed, as I say in the post
and as I said in 2015,
and as I said in 2011.

I'll be back soon to see how effective the attempted removal of the original crossings has been.
Perhaps TfL will add some ped facilities at the northern end of Battersea Bridge. Another junction where installing safe crossing facilities would get in the way of motors.
