Well done! It does sound like a sensible plan. My mum's had really bad experiences with getting support when she was trying to cut her cholesterol. It's all very well telling someone they need to keep their level down, but when you're facing decades of porridge you need a bit of structure!

Also: 'cheeselessness' sounds like an unpleasant state of being but it's an excellent word.

Wow! That is an impressive drop. Well done indeed and I'm sure a happy medium can be found.

"My doctor is very impressed."
I bet he was. He's probably used to patients only following his advice half-heartedly. Congratulations.

Well done!
I thinkyou're heading in the right direction with striking a balance between the two. You've picked up some great habits in the past two months and combining them with a few of the things you enjoy should keep you on track.

That must be annoying. It would have been great if the extreme diet had not made one jot of difference to your cholesterol level. Then you could have carried on swallowing all the cheese you want, entirely guilt free.

So - commiserations, and congratulations.

I think you should treat yourself to a visit to the Cambridge cheese shop.

You might need to overdoes on the statins after the visit though.

That's the spirit. Enjoy life.

That's amazing. Most people don't manage that much of a drop with diet alone. Well done!

Congratulations on the new way of eating and the outcome. Personally, I'd die without cheese, but keep it up and live your life to the full.

Porridgetastic.
Celebratory lard pies all round.

Congratulations!

On the doctor front, two things - your "why didn't I say/ask that " is universal and the reason that I've joined in a large number of doctor visits over the last many months.

Also, as I'm sure you know, don't depend on a GP to be an authority on dietary matters, except in the broadest terms. So you haven't missed much.

Congratulations! If I were you, I'd go down the pub and have a big celebratory pie and a pint. Mind you, don't go doing that too often! Your 'middle ground' idea seems sensible: everything in moderation, that's the way to go.

Congratulations. That is very impressive.

Have a cream egg to celebrate. Do they taste the same after two months' abstinence?

As for what you wanted to say, but didn't - you only had a five minute consultation. Next time write prompt notes!

'Cheeselessness' - I don't even want to think about it.

Well done!

The weight loss has undoubtedly contributed as much to the drop in numbers as the diet per se. So, as long as you don't put the weight back on, you should be able to keep below 4 and still eat a few cheese/choc/chip things.

And you've perfectly summed up why there are so many unhealthy people in this country. The system of GP consultation for ongoing health maintenance doesn't work.

Congratulations DG!

But I still think cheese is overrated.

Keep walking... and just eat sensibly. I think the general rule is the skinnier the better when it comes to longevity.

Being in a similar medical condition myself, I find it very odd that I enjoy eating salads without any dressing just as much as I used to like my salads with cheese dressing.

My Dear, I am going to suggest this book to you again and supplement it with another - if you read both you will know much more than any quack you are likely to see and will be able to eat well without growing into a mound of lard:
The Great Colesterol Con by Dr Malcolm Kendrick
Good Calories bad Calories by Gary Taubes

I believe the 'food' giants know the truth....its about time we knew the truth!

You can eat 60\\% cocoa choc with impunity, you can eat cheese (on its own without bread or crackers) with impunity. Find the facts out for yourself and stop falling for the doctor knows best story (they don't).

Well done Geezer! you just need to find the sensible middle ground in your diet now - a bit of what you fancy now and again, and lots of porridge

Well done indeed.

You don't say how old you are, or if you have, I haven't found it. It just so happens of course that age plays a great part in cholesterol readings.

I didn't think that 5.5 was THAT bad.

Might have to do something about it meself...

Have you included exercise in your régime??
