I sent the DLR an email around November with a suggestion for something that could be done during the Bank closure.

No reply.

Not even a "sod off, that is a stupid idea", which would have at least assured me that they had read the email.

*sulks*

And, glory of glories, the down escalator between Monument and Bank is working again. While they were re-doing the DLR platforms, they went back to sending people out of Monument and on to Bank at street level, which is a royal pain. Now let's see how long it is before it breaks down...

The pain is not over. At least one more DLR closure (13/14 Feb) to come.

On similar theme. I am kind of puzzled that they have installed a new "double lead" junction at Royal Mint St but trains for Tower are still crawling around the previous "single lead" route. Seems strange to close the line for a month to install a new junction then not use the new facility.

I noticed that the press release was prematurely put on the DLR website on Sunday 31st January despite being dated 1st February. I really dislike this anticipation that everything will be OK so prematurely announce it is. So it turned out fine on this occasion but Network Rail were once caught out big time when doing this. TfL is not immune and announced that Vauxhall bus station was open in a press release on the planned opening date whereas anyone on the ground could see that it was at least weeks away from being in a fit state to receive a bus.

Oh, and apparently they forgot to update Journey Planner.

I can't believe they're not introducing 3-car services on the Woolwich branch. Ever since they opened the Woolwich Arsenal station, it's been hell - in the mornings before the train wouldn't become standing room only until 3-4 stops down the line but now it's standing room only by the time it leaves the first station.

DLR may not have any 3-car trains in operation yet but there was a shiny 3-car job being used for last minute testing on the Royal Mint St/Cable St junction area over the weekend.

'an apology for all the other closures and disruptions that have taken place'. Not least of which was being kept up at ungodly hours of the morning when the work was being done at Bow Church... I lived in Jarret House at the time (immediately east of Bow Church DLR) and became well acquainted with arc lights shining through my bedroom window at 2am.

Fortunately I rarely have to travel in the rush hour, but when I have how anyone can say two-car/vehicle (whatever) trains on the Stratford branch are acceptable is beyond me. And while they're at it why is it this line is the only section without a through service to the City? Trains don't even rung through to Lewisham a lot of the time!

The reason for the Stratford branch not having through services to the City is still that given when the DLR was built: it basically doesn't need them.

If you want to go to the City: from Stratford you have the Central line, Jubilee line or National Rail, from Bow Church you have District line and H&C line services 200 yards away at Bow Road, from Devons Road you have the same lines at Bromley-by-Bow, and from All Saints you have alternative DLR services from Poplar and Blackwall.

Any through service from Stratford to the City would reduce capacity on the routes where it is more important.

There are plans to introduce three-car trains on most branches in the near-ish future, they just haven't nailed down definitive dates yet.

Robert: I would imagine (hope, even) they only booked a long enough closure to do the basic rebuilding of the junction and get it back open, and the weekend closure is when they'll do final testing/signing off of the new points/track/signalling/etc.

I saw a three car DLR train being tested at Lewisham on Saturday. It turned up while I was waiting for a stratford bound service, a number of official TFL types got off it, and walked up and down looking at it from the outside...very sternly telling us lot on the platform no to even think about getting on it.

the monument->bank escalator is back? hurrah! that makes me want to go and ride on it, just for the hell of it.

does anyone miss the days of the little red zig-zag line on the tube map, rather than the connector blob?

Not living in London I have no comments on the DLR. I'm just adding to DGs Count 2.

"Meanwhile I'm confident our Bank passengers will really notice the difference at the new and improved platforms."

Oh yes, I'm sure anyone wearing high heels or shoes with soft soles will have noticed a very unwelcome difference. How slippery are those tiled platforms and the concourse area now that they've been given a deep clean?! It's like walking on ice - and I've had enough of that back in January thanks. Grumble over. I will concede however that the floor does look nice without blackened chewing gum blobs everywhere...
