I have! I go to Toby Carvery every couple months and back in my younger fitter years used the leisure centre
I've been to the Red House so I might have driven through.
I have! They sometimes hold Antique Fairs there
I've been to the (excellent) pub The Crooked Billet near Reading.

(A billet is a log).
No. I have also been to one of the many Crooked Billet pubs, but not the one that gives its name to a similar area in Wimbledon.
A very interesting post - glad to see the Crook Log pub has managed to keep its proper sash windows.
Danson Park is indeed very nice. At the top of it is Welling United's football ground, which is probably the only reason why I've ever walked through Crook Log!
My son is a huge fan of the carvery, He lives abroad now but always makes a dash for it when he returns.
I visited the Crook Log one December for a festive meal and the heating was on the blink. Those lovely sash windows are extremely draughty.
My secondary school claims Roger Moore as a pupil (briefly when evacuates during the war)
My school swimming lessons were in the original Crook Log pool, the area has changed considerably since then.
Re Crook Log
When l saw this l thought it was straight away it is a corruption of an old native British (i.e. Welsh) place name. Then l remembered a place I'd been to in Wales called Crugybar. The "Crug" meaning "burial mound" or "barrow". Thus my hypothesis is that "Crook" is a corruption of "Crug". "Log" in my view is almost certainly the same type of corruption ("Lud" or Lug") possibly in old Welsh "Burial Mound of Lug"
Given I used to live very near there when I was a kid (and my Mum still lives nearby) I have been to Crook Log more than once!
I remember the old swimming pool there very fondly.

Should we infer that BestMate is at least five years younger than you, otherwise the GCSE project would have been for an O Level.
If you check the archives carefully, you can work out exactly when to send him a 50th birthday card.
I'd never even heard of Crook Log before!
Learnt to swim as a duckling in the old pool. Got lost as a toddler in Danson Park(I still remember being very frightened). Grew up in a bungalow ten minutes away. Haven't been back in almost 40 years.
