Civilisation? Erith?

The late great Linda Smith hailed from Erith. She said it didn't have any twin towns, but did have a suicide pact with Dartford

Not converted barracks on the Arsenal. Predominantly converted factories, warehouses and dull offices.

There was rumour that the Radio Caroline ship, Ross Revenge, currently in Tilbury was going to end up on Erith Pier but various agencies scuppered that.

Timbo - Dagenham, rather.

And if you find Erith uncivilised ...just wait till you get to Slade Green, or Barnes Cray....

(the walk along the Thames immediately East of Erith has some quite unexpected delights; wild horses and an expanse of piles of scrap cars) among them

One of my favourite bits of the Thames path for cycling - great in autumn for blackberries and sloes, wild fennel, hips and haws, fantastic mudflats when the tide is out, largely deserted and strangely otherworldly. As Dominic H points out, gets even weirder the further east you go...!

Do I sense your heart wasn't really into spending a lot of time writing an in-depth report today, after yesterdays frustration? Or maybe there just wasn't much to wax lyrical about!
