Its the second tunnel from Kings Cross, the first is Gasworks, then the cattle market is north of Copenhagen.

On the older maps, it you head slightly north east, on the other side of the Caledonian Road, you can see the railway sidings where the cattle trains were unloaded, I think that this was later used by British Rail for Motor Rail trains before this switched to Kensington Olympia.
Dear DG, your wanderings in the more obscure parts of London are always a delight to read!
Re the Metropolitan cattle market; I grew up in Highbury, and sometimes went to the sports ground at the end of Market Road on Saturdays for school football matches. This was the early 1950s, and cattle were still being herded to the abattoir, the stench of which was strong. The "school" dentists were in the same area, of which I still have similarly horrific memories.
I suppose it's good to be reminded about cattle markets and slaughterhouses. For all my awareness of cattle trucks as items of model railways, it never occurred to me to think of them as part of the meat industry. Which of course still exists, but a bit more out of publc view.
I'd like to mention the York Way Estate, immediately next to the former Market Estate. I've always found it remarkable just how well kept that place is.
The contrast was even starker back when the old Market Estate, built in exactly the same style, was still (barely) standing. Perhaps the old cattle market was better...
Edinburgh House looks a lot more swish inside than when I used to visit 20+ years when it was BT offices & training centre. Still looks the same outside though.
