Happy Birthday?
I can relate to the potholing experience.
Did you tell your seventeen year old self to wear sunscreen?
My 17 year old self later discovered the same about black olives.
Think I've worked out the yearly Mystery Count.

It has to be "Number of big toes on my right foot".
I sometimes think about writing advice to my younger selves, but often just end up wondering about the paths I didn't take. It's not that I don't like the life I have, but if I was going to do it all again, I think I'd do it differently to see how that timeline turned out.
My 7 year old self had to write with an Osmiroid pen and nib. When I started using a biro my handwriting went downhill. Teacher did really know best!
I'm trying to work out how much of this advice might have come from your dear old dad.
I've never really understood what "showing off" is exactly. Just that you're not supposed to do it.
In the wise words of Agnes Nutter "Do notte buye Betamacks"
The best laugh I've had in many a long day - thankyou. The first and final nuggets remain the most memorable.
Advice to dg from a time traveller who knows his future self in 10 years time.

* It's OK, the world didn't end in the next two years.
* But if you were surprised by some of the stuff that happened in 2020/1/2, just wait till you see what 2026 has in store.
* Those health worries you had in the past still haven't materialised. All that walking you are doing is paying off - keep it up.
* Who knew that Dangleways would be the future, in every city in the UK. Just a pity you didn't copyright the name.
* The guy who did is doing well though, isn't he?
* In two years, 3 months and 11 days time, you are going to make a really smart move. Follow your instinct.
* In 10 years time, you still just as cool as you are today.
A mixture of funny and poignant - I'm both uplifted by this and (transiently) becoming a little too introspective at the same time. Classic dg in a good way.
17 year-old me also needed a talking-to for similar reasons.
