I am surprised that you have not mentioned the Punch and Judy show on the beach, Weymouth has one of the last few remaining. Maybe you went on one of the rare summer days when the show was not on.

If I am on a day trip to Weymouth I try to take a bus up to Portland Bill in the afternoon.

This Summer there have been steam trains running from London to Weymouth every Wednesday.

I have mentioned Punch & Judy, honest, if only briefly. The esteemed Professor Poulton only puts on three shows a day, and I was nowhere near the beach at the time.

If you were on the Rodwell Trail, you could have come and knocked. (The gap where they knocked down the old railway bridge is due to get a lottery-funded foot bridge next year)

And - blimey - I've lived here for eight years and I never realised there WAS a pleasure pier.

Today I ran across a Guardian article about DiamondGeezer's being one of the three general London blogs (to balance out their prior focus on political blogs) that have been added to the Guardian's "Top London Bloggers" feed. Congratulations!

Wasn't The French Lieutenant's Woman set in Lyme Regis?
