How dare they! How dare they say "no disruption".
Yes of course the Isle of Dogs needs improved transport, and of course the new station is a good thing. But how dare they say no disruption.

Those of us who live on the island are fed up with weekend after weekend of no trains.
(As you might have guessed - I'm spitting tacks about that outragous lie by tfl)

Hands up who saw that programme last night about the replacement of Line 1, the busiest Metro line in Paris, entirely done at night in three-hour shifts when there are no trains running? An entire Metro line refurbished without a single weekend closure (apart from a single day to repour the concrete forming the new platforms).

A comment on London Connections:

"Last weekend's closure was for the first stage of demolition of the old station, rather than for completion of the new station, so technically..."

Another very informative piece. Cheers.

top report...

I followed a link to a Taylor Woodrow inhouse video on youtube earlier, where the guy in charge of South Quay mentioned how much of the work was done during weekend possesions...

Weird eh...

TfL staff were handing out jelly beans in cardboard DLR models yesterday. Win!

Perhaps they got a bit more done during the weekend "possession" than just commissioning the new South Quays station. I notice this afternoon that the Lewisham-bound trains at Greenwich DLR are now stopping with the front of the train at the correct point for three-car trains. I don't know if this occurred elsewhere on the Stratford - Lewisham route.

To give the DLR their due, testing modifications to the software that controls a driverless train requires a bit more caution than just punting out a beta version and waiting for the users to report bugs.

They updated a several stopping points a few weeks ago, including at Deptford Bridge and Crossharbour. I don't know if all the stations on the branch were changed at the same time.

That made it even more baffling that the southbound stopping position at the new South Quay is all the way to the rear of the platform, rather than at the front as it'll need to be to accommodate three cars. Why didn't they just commission the station now with the three-car stopping point, and save themselves the hassle and expense of changing it later?
