Thanks DG - I don't post that often, but this has been very interesting. Even though I now live in France, I used to use the tube for my daily commute. My father worked for London Transport based at Baker Street; the highlight of his career being the Area Manager responsible for bringing the Jubilee Line into service (it was to be called the Fleet Line after the river that runs under London, but was changed for the Queen's Silver Jubilee) - we still have the photos of him being introduced to Prince Charles on opening day. My brother still works as an engineer at Acton Works - now for the dreaded and doomed Metronet. Thanks again - I'll watch out for next year's trip down memory lane! |
