Wow this apple fair is almost invisible to Google but not to DG! I looked it up to figure out where is Palace Green (not Ken by the pic) and I suppose is the one in Durham...
Palace Green, Ely?
Yep, Ely. Don't know any other cathedral that looks like that.

Time to bake Applesauce Cake! Yum. Applesauce by the way is incredibly easy to make-three medium apples, three tablespoons water and cook slowly til smooshable. Add sugar IF necessary.
Oops-peel, core and quarter apples first (in case this isn't obvious)
Once queued for over an hour to have an apple from our garden tree identified only to receive a very cursory glance and a doleful "it's a Bramley"
Which mayor is he referring to?
It is indeed Ely, the town where I lived for the past ten years, and yet still never been in the vicinity when Apple Day has been held. Must try to rectify that next year.
I celebrated apple day with a couple of pints of New Forest Cider's Snakecatcher Scrumpy. Love apples in liquid form, does me more good!
Golden delicious is a much-maligned apple. Get a nice, ripe golden one from South Africa. Nectar.

That's true, my parents once had a Golden Delicious tree in their garden, and the fruit, freshly picked were very nice.

Not that you get Golden Delicious apples in the supermarket these days, I haven't seen them for years, and Granny Smiths are rare as well!
