No.

But it did change by the second, and according to where you happened to be standing. My shot (from outside the Golden Fleece on Wanstead Flats) was good, imo. I zoomed round the corner to try to get a shot with Canary Wharf and nada. Just goes to show - beer is the only answer.

the sky does feel calmer...

it is oddly quiet not having planes flyover, those nearer Heathrow must be hoping that this last for a good while yet.

Quiet quiet skies. So very weird.

DG - are you sure that you're not conflating "sky" with "atmosphere"? Anyway, here beneath the Gatwick flightpath, all is peaceful - well, mostly. Yesterday, three aircraft passed - two were, I think, medical aircraft. The other was an RAF fighter. With our local neighbourhood beacon (http://www.grayblog.co.uk/2005/01/what-the-fox-hat/), lots of aircraft tend to fly over our neck of the woods.

LOL at RTB. Yes, its nice to be able to hear the police sirens instead, and what I thought was an ash cloud here turns out to be a neighbour's stinky bonfire instead. Still waiting for the sunsets ...

Sizzling Clegg stuns Britain as deadly ash cloud strikes!

Nice to see blue sky with no vapour trails though

Just got to figure out how to "seed" volcanoes and we'll have a high speed rail network in no time ;)

Quick, someone pour some soap into that crater right this minute.

Beautiful post DG, thanks.

Yes, we do take it very much for granted.

You've probably found it or linked to it, but the flightradar24.com website is interesting when all the planes have gone away.

Its even more desolate this evening (Friday).

Flip the adjust tab to switch on the aircraft callsigns too.

Mount St Helens was better.

A mantle of life - what a wonderful expression!

Agree that the sunsets have been a little disappointing - maybe today might be a good one given the ash is now right over the south east. Will be looking out for a blue moon. Great post btw.
