Ah, the Alton Estate, I only visited a couple of times but one of my kids (student) seemed far less worried about the little light stabbing that occurred almost monthly outside their front door. Great park in the back yard though.

A shame I didn't know this walk was on; it would have been the lazy option for me.

As it was, I got shown round the Lawn Tennis Association's amazing new facility. On one landing, Andy Murray pushed through our group with his head down, in no mood to acknowledge anyone.

The 'supermarket with flats on top' model works okay on King Street, Hammersmith. I had hoped that we would get more than just 'The Coop' to shop in locally. Sadly, the end of the long statutory consultation period for the project coincided with the latest stock market crash.

Still, I've heard the coop now offers fresh ruit and veg for sale to the locals. Onwards and upwards!

I was on that tour! If you slipped off 90% of the way round you missed the lovely view from the back of Roehampton University across to Richmond Park. Were you the chap in the glasses with the black Blacks rucksack? If only I had known you were on the tour I would have said hello - having been a daily reader of your blog for the past 5 years it would have been nice to put a face to the blog!

No glasses, no rucksack :)
And no time to hang around, sorry, not even for a gorgeous park view.

Morden Abbey Park????
Think you mean Morden Hall Park

Did you know that the Alton West's layout was inspired by Beverly Hills? Kind of didn't come out the same way, but when I lived close to there it wasn't a bad area - the presence of the park calmed people down.

I can't help but think that if most developments had been done to the standard of the Alton Estate, tower blocks and concrete wouldn't have half as bad a reputation. Yes, it can still be a bit grim in the wet and grey, but that estate was built to a much higher standard and better designed than most in this country.
