Excellent and what a true completist you are. Thanks for sharing your tour. It's been brilliant.
There's nothing wrong with Saffron Walden 😉 although I didn't realise this 40 years ago when I grew up 5 miles away in rural South Cambridgeshire.

There's a very fine (& huge) church and the largest turf maze in the world. Audley End house and Park is cheek by jowl with the town too.

The County tops of Essex and Cambridgeshire are both nearby too for those that like that sort of thing.

Ooh, I got quite excited when I saw that second map. Not to worry, I'm sure there'll be something equally exciting along shortly.
Makes some of us wonder...what will you do with your time when you retire
Let me add my thanks for this series which I have found most informative.
Did you plan each visit meticulously or were there times when you visited a site of interest only to find it wasn't remotely interesting so you had to find something else? I know you've recorded many venues that have been closed but you may have know that before visiting.

I was wondering if there was the possibility of a post that enumerated the least interesting spots to visit around London...
Just reread the Slough entry (where I now live). Time for a revisit to walk to the Slough Canal Arm?
PS Many thanks for a fascinating series of posts.
Thank you. Thoroughly enjoyable for the reader. And I hope for the writer too.

I wonder what has changed in Merton, Islington, and Enfield since 2004? Time to revisit systematically?

It's funny how unitary authorities seem to exist along the Thames corridor, whereas to the north and south the bordering authorities are "districts".

The southern and eastern borders at Southend and Rochford are a proper scribbly mess, by the way. Curious.
Oh and map link to blog posts do-able?
For the completists' completist, there are still the remaining grid squares, boroughs-that-never-were, and bus routes (at the rate of one every birthday!) to complete - and possibly others I've forgotten.
50 eh? What a nice tidy ending.

You have inspired me to be more random and spontaneous, so whichever iron is pulled out next, it's bound to be fascinating. I for one can't wait.
I thought you went round the Home Counties boroughs anti-clockwise ??

anyway, thanks for letting me see the world through your eyes
@Caz

I thought it was only witches who went round churches widdershins (there are an awful lot of churches in Greater London....)
As far as we know, DG is not a witch (although he does seem to have the power of invisibility).
Looks to me like you've got a book or two "in the can" and the outer ring could produce another. There's a series there " Rambling with DG".
Well that map is a surprise. I'd no idea that 2 boroughs out of London could reach the south coast!
Congratulations on another achievement unlocked. ☺
The additional visitors ring might be easier if you jumps back to the last major local govt reorganisation and did the UD and RD Councils instead of todays larger local govt monstrosities?
