A clue as to how you got there?

Tell you tomorrow. But it's not difficult.

My own immediate question, pre-empted and (kind of) answered, above.I had visions of you smuggling yourself on board a Shearings coach of 80-plus year-olds en route for a "Glory of the Trossachs" mini-break.

Google Street View has photos of how DG arrived: http://g.co/maps/c6wzy

"...he seemed surprised when I said I didn't have a car"
Oh, I bet he did.

Excellent!

You are almost certainly wrong Mark. If DG can't manage a bike I very much doubt if he would arrive by horse.

Not sure if you caught the piece on this on R4 Saturday Live on Sat 30th?

M25 once on a trip to the UK, I spent nearly 5 hours on this fantastic stretch of road.
As to not owning a car, I would imagine that a lot of London inner city inhabitants don't.

Well, it's not difficult: Potters Bar station is about a mile away, and according to the London Bus map three UNO bus routes pass South Mimms on their way from Hatfield to various tube stations - although only the 614 (Queensbury, Edgware, Barnet, S Mimms, Hatfield) operates on Saturdays

I recall visiting South Mimms services before it burnt down. From what I remember, the original building wasn't hugely exciting, so one could argue that the rebuilding of the services was, in the long term, a good thing.

Goodness, I was there only last week for a Waitrose pork pie and a bottle of juice. I had no idea it was such an auspicious week.

And I was there on Sat too for a toilet break on the way back from N.Wales - I noticed you had to walk past all the other shops to get to them...

And while you were out, you'll have missed a BBC One documentary about the M25, which was a special treat for viewers in the South-East.
It's not on iPlayer yet, but claims to be 'coming soon' - keep an eye on http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b016z4lq and it might turn up eventually.
