I know a bit about Ernst Chain due to a family friend's connection. He has a student residence in Guilford, a building at Imperial and - most interestingly - a road in County Mayo where he saw out his final days - named after him.

Another interesting post to start my day. And, of course, the links lead me on and on. Leading me to read the obituary of Merlin Pryce, not Price, in the BMJ.

One to remember if I find myself in Paddington with 30 mins to spare.

There is another Sir Alexander Fleming pub operated by Wetherspoon on Paddington Basin.

Respect Fleming's legacy and protect your own by taking steps to minimise the rise of AMR!

Terrific, many thanks. Now that's what I call a real museum: small, quirky, old-fashioned, fascinating and hugely important. After twenty years or so, I must make another visit.

I too enjoy this sort of museum, with a detailed story to hear and read, and no gimmicks. But museums are changing, with more interaction, and this is for a good reason - people are all different, and those with a different learning style or attention span can get a lot more from the new setups.

On their website they offer a 360degree view of the lab, but their URL's wrong. Try flemingcentre.org/lab

Meanwhile, the other side of Hyde Park, along Imperial College Road you will find the Sir Alexander Fleming building and next door but one the Sir Ernst Chain building.
Not a great deal to see I'm afraid. The cafe in SAF is easily reached but you'd need an access card to get much further in either building. |

The new Alexander Fleming pub in Paddington Basin is a Wetherspoon, and so has a customised carpet. In this case, they’ve deliberately gone for a design that resembles Fleming’s mould. A few information panels on the wall too.
