Or rent a Fiat 500 from a well-known car hire company with a green logo for £41 for 24 hours - parking and petrol not included!
Who wants to spend more than 30 minutes at a time on a Boris bike anyway?
It's basically £2 per half hour plus a £2 daily fee. It is much simpler and easier to understand than the old system. Some lost, some win. I can live with it.
To put a reply in much the same terms as Brad, I can't honestly see what the fuss is about, apart from finding yet another pretext for a bit of Boris bashing
Not sure what the fuss is about tbh. They're designed for short-term use and the 30 minutes use stays free.

If they scrapped the free 30-minutes then we'd be right to have a whinge.

It's a shame the penalties aren't a bit higher for long-term use, to really clobber the gormless tourists who don't put them back.
I'm split a little by this. Yes - it is £2 per half-hour. So "simple" in that regards.

But there's going to be ever more slipping just over the 30 minute mark as the area covered expands, and journeys not previously possible are now achievable and take a bit longer.

For me, that means a 35 minute journey goes from £3 to £4 - a 33% increase based on the fact that I now just PAYG with my key as an occasional user.

Then again, it seems like a better deal for tourists who want to spend a few hours in the summer in Hyde Park, and would previously have got a massive bill-shock at around 3-4 hours.

Personally, I think they need to incentivise users to move bikes about a bit more. If you park your bike at a dock with less than 3 bikes, your journey is free! That kind of thing. Anything to alleviate over-capacity of bikes in Central London during the day, and under capacity at mainline stations and outer areas at the same time.
@Brad, that formula doesn't work!
Ah, ok, including the £2 access fee.
To fully understand the impact we'd need to find the stats from TFL (or FOI) for the number of journeys in each of these time categories - and add them as a bar chart on the side of the table!!
