A perfectly calming read to start the day, thank you.

Lingwood was the first place in Norfolk that I ever went to, because my sister-in-law lived there.

He's never had a holiday? Hard to believe.

...he lives in the Norfolk countryside, what will he be taking a holiday from exactly?
I like that in amongst all the technology, there is still a box in a garden that is used to verify a temperature record. Does it all end up like lighthouses where eventually everything gets automated. |

Fifty-odd years ago, my school in Wanstead had a Stevenson screen on a small lawn beside the dining huts. I presume someone collected information from there and did something with it, but I never found out who or why.

The Sunny Cottage weather station, be careful what you wish for.

Thanks for the link to the telegraph tower information, I always wondered why there was a Telegraph Road in Putney Heath.

Fascinating!

I've noticed newly hatched Peacock butterflies round here in the last week or so but only in small numbers. I had also noted clumps of Peacock caterpillars (distinctively black and hairy) on nettles a month ago. So I think it may be both life cycle and heat as text books say later July / early August when the new butterflies should emerge.

Fascinating stuff. That's a very strange looking church, with the lowered nave roof, with two heights. Indeed butchered rather than restored by the Victorians!

Terrific post - the essence of Diamond Geezer. Apart from all that stuff about buses, stations and London, of course. I love the sense of zooming in from something big (a new weather record) to 'a white louvred box...beside a row of runner beans'. Lovely bit of writing.

1. Unlogged is probably my favourite post of the month usually although I don't comment as I haven't much to add.
13. I now have Cher warbling one of her biggest hits inside my head. |
