The decommissioned power station is set to become the City Corporation's new combined market in the next few years, so it's not all about ticky tacky boxes, oh no.
I look forward to your coverage of footpaths 1 to 46.
Back in the 50's, my Dad had a yard down at creekmouth and we used to walk our dog (Toby) over the wasteland along the river between the fisons site and the power station. It's taken a while to be built over!
My great-uncle Charlie worked at Barking power station until he retired, which must have been about when it closed. He was a nice man with a fantastically unhappy and long-lasting marriage, as seemed to be the case for most of my older relatives. He lived in Barking and I'm fairly sure he didn't drive, so I wonder how he got there. I'd better ask my Dad, fairly soon, as he's the last person who would know.
THC: the City of London wholesale markets scheme is aimed at the former Barking Reach power station at Dagenham Dock, a different site.
Coincidentally, we had planned a visit to Barking Riverside and Footpath 47 today but the weather has put paid to that. Tomorrow perhaps.
I like this drone videographer who has taken periodical videos of this footpath and development.
Heaven 17. Level 42. Footpath 47.
Do not, I repeat DO NOT, visit Footpath 47. Allow DG to retain the certainty of solitude!
"Outer London's most frequent bus service".... now that's a claim !
Since I read an earlier post (thanks!) footpath 47 has become one of my favourite bus-and-wander walks. When the fencing had been up a while but before any activity started, I enjoyed seeing many skylarks singing above the site. I hope they keep the natural shoreline.
I clicked on the Barking Riverside link. OMG what a horrible looking place, reminded me of the Soviet era tenements around Gdansk. Vile.
I remember reading about this before and wondering if it's still there. Probably one of those London 'attractions' that I'll never get to and exist only in the imagination.
I walked this way on foot of (pun intended) a previous blog post you made about it, and i thoroughly enjoyed it - thanks!

Steve
Finally made it down there today. Thanks for giving me the idea to pop down before it all changes.
