A really original way to celebrate your birthday!

Enjoyed reading this very much.

If the skyscraper mentioned at Elephant and Castle is the one I think it is I will be fascinated to know how they propose to take down the crane.

I was the odd one out , i always wanted a job south.

DG,You could describe paint drying and it would be interesting

lovely piece. I often take the 45 in 2 segments (Kings Cross to Southwark tube, elephant to Loughborough Junction) but could never describe it so well.

DG, such is your prose that I felt as if I were sitting next to you on the bus. Interesting journey.

Happy Birthday!

You really know how to celebrate. Happy birthday, DG.

Clapham Park = imaginary destination invented by TfL. More correctly known as Streatham Hill, Atkins Road.

see u at the start of the 46 next year...

So, is Smithfield market being demolished??!!?? I holiday in London once a year, and I did not know SM was to be done away with. I checked the BBC website and Googled for info about this, but found only a news item in 2008 saying that demolition and development of the Smithfield market site had been denied - ??

The 45 buses also had 'Streatham Hill/Christchurch Road' and 'Brixton Hill/Atkins Road' on some of its blinds for a time. I'm not sure anyone could make their mind up either way. I'm sure the destination hasn't changed in the years involved (c.1999-date)

Matt: while there's plenty to be said about TfL piddling about with destination blinds and descriptions in recent times, IMO the change on the 45 isn't a total nonsense - the current route doesn't quite reach what would traditionally be considered 'Streatham Hill' (i.e. Telford Avenue, Station, etc), it goes a little further than 'Brixton Hill', the sprawl of interwar council blocks around the terminus does make up the (huge) Clapham Park Estate, and the terminus does sit in what passes as a 'centre' for the estate (a few shops and a crossroads, anyway).

The buses of this city is an icon and thwarting the efficiency of public transport in this city.
