Thanks for not mentioning the places I'm intending to go.

For your third place special, my money's on 55 Broadway (the building over St James's Park tube). I'm going there on Sunday, and will keep a look out for DG-like figures. I'm sure I spotted you at the Blue Fin Building last year, but only realised it in retrospect when I saw your photographs.

The growing interest hit home a few years ago when I snakily queued around the Gherkin, only to give up in exhaustion 4 hours later. How very different to/from when our party of three had an art deco bingo hall in Camberwell to ourselves and Fosters in Battersea served us coffee.

Last year I fell asleep at the keyboard (after a 17 hour shift) while waiting for the booking to open so I feel a little vindicated to now have several places that make me grin, oh yes! I should've gone for the aerial view of the Olympic site earlier though.

BT Tower hasn't got back to me - livid.

The only one of those I've ever been to is the Roof Garden, which I loved. Here in Scotland we've also got Doors Open weekend this weekend, so I've got a few things lined up. It's such a great idea, Glasgow's a brilliant city. Looking forward to it very much.

thanks for a fantastic inspiration list...

it might be worth noting that the roof gardens can be visited most days - when there isn't an event on... you just need to ask at reception... if there is an event on you will be declined entry but if it is just a normal restaurant day they should let you in... i used to work nearby and regularly go up there and eat my packed lunch with the flamingos... and a bunch of daily mail types...

If anyone's going to PADDOCK this year, I pray to the god of transportation that there's no rail replacement bus services in place. We went last year and there were. I've never walked that far, that fast, and wanted to cry so hard on a hot Saturday afternoon. I came out in a cold sweat when I ended up in Neasden due to my job some six months later.

I'm guessing the special place is the BT Tower (I'd love to have tried for that but I don't hold current passport or a photo driving licence, which is required).
Wondering if you're going to do the Aldwych Blitz tour next weekend. I'm going on Sunday and hoping to see a report from you before I go.

If you missed Tower 42, you could always go for a drink in Vertigo 42, the bar up there.

You need to book in advance and there is a minimum spend (£10 per person I think) but bearing in mind the very nice champagne cocktails are £13.50 that wouldn't be difficult!

Or am I missing the point, the point being you can go for free via Open House?

Hi,

Have been reading your blog for a while, and finally managed to follow some of your recommendations! City Hall and St. Anne's Tower were great! Thanks for the recommendations, and keep up the good writing.
