The colours in the backgrounds of the display in the first photo look familiar... are they those used in London 2012?
You can be Jewish by inheritance (traditionally through the female line only), or by religion (usually by upbringing but alternatively by conversion). Historically these went together, but not always these days.

Sounds like a really fascinating museum.
This was one of the first museums I went to in my 3 months of unemployment a few years ago - my target was one every other day - and it was quite a good start. The temporary exhibit at the time was of Abram Games' work, which was superlative, and as a Brit of Jewish heritage myself, the whole museum had a certain intangible welcoming quality.
Also the area is very peaceful just steps away from Camden High Street.
Sounds like well thought out and interesting museum. Definitely one to visit, thanks.
I notice also that next month they're hosting a special tie-in event with the Vagina museum as part of the Emerge Festival.

The more you know :-)
I definitely recommend this place. I went a couple of years ago for a photographic exhibition and thoroughly enjoyed the rest of it. A volunteer gave me a really good introduction to the exhibits on the first floor and Jewish customs. What I really liked on the second floor (as someone not from London) is an interactive screen where you can choose any city in the UK and it'll give you a potted history of the local Jewish community
Zangwill again: I wonder if that is just coincidence, or if the blue plaque prompted the trip to the museum, or vice versa.
This is a really decent write-up on the Jewish Museum. And excellent and thoroughly detailed resource.

Nice one Geezer. You're a diamond.
