Middle of paragraph one: "even lass far". Sorry, I'm a serial corrector. It's a mental condition.

So, since you've reached Highgate, any chance of a feature on the abandoned platforms?

Scottish lady in the distance? :-)

I've lived within a couple of miles of Highgate for most of my life and visited the area countless times, yet only ever been to Queens Wood once, and never been to Highgate Wood proper. Even for an ardent pan-Londoner It's always worth having things left unchecked on the list..

Sounds like great day out DG.

When was Hampstead Garden Suburb synagogue opened?

The year 5722 as stated by DG. This is measured from the day of creation. Obviously a synagogue can hardly give you a date since the birth of someone they don't believe in.

The first photo looks like a small crocodile is about to nom that birdie. Just saying.

I remember walking the stretch of the path through Highgate Wood and remember it as a higlight. I started from there and it was a winter day and quite misty and as a result the woodland was certainly atmospheric.

Thanks, I was wondering about the 5722, and whether the Chief Rabbi was actually Doctor Who :-)

Of all the photos I take, my Capital Ring photos are the ones you lot look at least.
Just saying.

I'm surprised people don't go to the photos first. They give the 'feel' of the walk - a lot easier than reading all those words :)
A propos tomorrow's post about Olympics transport arrangements, there was a dreadful shemozzle in Auckland a fortnight ago at the opening of the Rugby World Cup, which demonstrates the near-impossibility of predicting how many people will turn up in a certain area at a certain time. Great description as usual Diamond.

Have you ever crossed the aqueduct over the noisy North Circular Road? It's the bridge with the nice metal latticework between Stonebridge Park & Hangar Lane gyratory/tube - near the Chinese food wholesaler whose name escapes me and Mercedes Direct. Fascinating - especially in a boat.

Enjoy!!
