"O dear.....
How Sad.....
Never Mind"
dg, thank you.
You think your gas price is bad. We're on oil, the price has tripled since the last tank full.
Not only “ there's always joy in the everyday and we have to grasp the here and now ” but each day starts with reading your post and puts the world in perspective. Thank you.
Yes.
When I'm not thinking about which room, or corridor, would be safest to shelter in, should the bomb drop; my mind turns to fuel economy: My morning bath is now a WW2 emergency level - about 3 inches. With the heat turned down to 17 degrees, I'm relying on my downstairs neighbours' heating to take the chill off. I may have a word with them to turn it up, so I feel the benefit..
And to think at this time last year I wasn't sure if I should fix my energy rates for 1 or 2 years. Pretty relieved I went for 2!

I wonder if the mid-90s to early 2000s really were a more optimistic time, or if that's just rose-tinted shades? Was it just because we were finally out from under the threat of nuclear annihilation and authoritarian communism, or did the future actually look rosy?
Just be pleased it is no longer Trump in charge in the US.
Spot on.
We can join the dots back to the past, but overall are rubbish at predicting into the future.

But whatever today brings we can focus on bringing to it our best.
Remember that your utility bill increase was agreed on 3rd February, BEFORE the invasion of Ukraine, imagine what the next one will be - except you'll be punishing Putin this time - 'cutting off our noses' comes to mind.
2 years on from the start of the Covid pandemic in this country, I'm currently self isolating with Covid...
Just now, whilst having a dump, I was browsing the web and I watched a subtitled video of an old black and white tv interview with the Finnish gentleman who, in 1925, invented the cheese slicer. The person who posted this video did it in order to provide the English subtitles with several instances of the phrase 'cutting the cheese'. I live in a world in which this is not only possible, but normal. And I rejoice.
Last year fully converted to solar and wind power. I even sell excess power back to the grid.
Hahaha at the Trump Derangement Syndrome. Putin's invasion took a year to plan, which means that the decision to invade was made the day that the Democrat's election steal was finished, but…

What Blue Witch said.

I can't be the only one signed up to 100% renewable electricity who hasn't yet heard an reasonable explanation of why such prices need to rise quite so much.
Yes, what Blue Witch said.
It's also a sincere concern that the UK continues to be "led" by the straw-haired egomaniac with many seemingly questionable connections.
And by no means can it be ruled out that Trump will start his second term in 2024.
I tested positive for Covid just this morning. That's the hat-trick. Happy anniversary.
Shows how fragile and parochial are "normality" and stability. Need redefinition and resetting of expectation in global context from time to time. Now seems to be one of those times.
I still think most of the restrictions were a waste of time because Downing Street ignored them with impunity. If things go belly up no one will take any notice now.
It's not going to get better, it will get worse.

I reckon around 40 years until the society we currently know in which we can rely on the state and a functioning economy to provide security, helathcare and food totally collapses, due to a combination of war and the effects of climate change(famine, flood, fire, refugees etc.).
Trump was indeed an embarrassment to his country but so alas is his successor, who inspires not one whit of confidence.
On the plus side, I don't think there are any new ELO albums in the pipeline. Could be wrong.
What Rod said. And Strabismus.

It seems to me that ‘stability’ for ‘Western’ society coincided with very cheap hydrocarbon extraction: a glorious but short stretch of ‘comfortable normality’ that must come to an end if an equally cheap and flexible energy source is not used soon.

Green energy used at this same profligate level will require huge geological resources to get under way and maintain. The third world will supply all that of course.

Tim Marshall’s ‘Prisoners of Geography’ pretty-well predicted the Ukraine war on logical grounds. Agreed, prediction is unpredictable but his writing is based on knowledge and experience. Should you wish to look ahead at all.
Yes. That just about sums up how I feel.
