We folk from South Yorkshire have indeed taken a couple of works outings to Cleethorpes, back in the days when university budgets would stretch to a nice day out thinly disguised as teambuilding. I originally suggested it almost as a joke, but it has caught on. We have had lunch in Steels, played crazy golf (not me) and swum in the estuary (again, not me). I went antique shopping and bought a framed photo of Immingham Graving Dock circa 1920.
Its a lovely place to sit and watch the world go by
I’m starting to believe you were actually there this week.

To be fair, I am only 50-50 whether you even went to Waltham Forest post lockdown.
It's nice reading this - I grew up in Scunthorpe so I had many a day trip to Cleggy for fish and chips. It really is a decent little seaside town.
Those steps to the beach bear a striking resemblance to Folly House Beach on the Thames to remind you of home. These blogs bring back childhood memories, though I haven't been back to Cleethorpes since around 1960. Enjoy your break.
I've never been, but am seeing/reading much that appeals. And not just the chips! Another for my long list. Assuming you used a train as your main mode, I hope you include details of your travel arrangements in the conclusion.
Absurdly cheap real estate prices that Australians can only dream about. Is it really bad?

dg sighs: No.
Fun (?) fact:

Parts of Sheffield refer to Cleethorpes as 'Clefeypees'
I've always liked Cleethorpes and especially the railway station being so close to the seafront. Many London residents are openly questioning why they are here at all now given the living conditions and don't want to go back to the commuting hell.
Never realised that Patricia Hodge was from Cleethorpes! I guess it's because in those days all actors were trained to talk in RP rather than their native accents...
Oh I do like to be beside the seaside and stroll along the prom, prom, prom!

It's been 18 months since my last dose of Vitamin Sea and I'm feeling very deficient, so enjoyed being vicariously there today.
Wow. No wonder staycations have such an appeal. Who needs Bali when you have Cleethorpes.
I seriously hope that it won't be too long before we can revisit these posts and laugh as the irony e.g. "Welcome to Cleethorpes. Keep your distance." a.k.a. welcome, now go away.
Aah! Wonderful memories of Steels. I've eaten their fabulous fish and chips many times when I visited the town in the 70's as a sales rep. It was the place to meet up with others in my trade and was quite a social occasion for us all. Happy days!
So you braved the train?
I was born a few hundred metres from the seafront. As was (the actress who played) Mrs Mangle from Neighbours. The Pier used to be a tacky nightclub. It remains the only place in the UK I ever got asked to show proof of age (which I couldn’t do, being 16).
