How you meander through these backwoods so often illuminates...
I spent many a Friday night, during the 80s, driving up to the Orange Tree pub with one date or another ... and never knew this lay beyond the pub's confines...

The Folly Brook may not have appeared as one of the Rivers, but the HQ for Peter Grant and all the "funny stuff"r is "The Folly"........

Born & raised in Mill Hill (albeit the Burnt Oak end!) I had never heard of Folly Brook before today!
The best we had was the Silk Stream, which doesn't live up to it's pretty sounding name in any shape or form!

According to my ecologist other half who is familiar with this water course:
Is in fact 10 little tributaries feeding in to the main water course of Folly brook - could say that when at confluence with Dollis brook is a 10th order 'stream' as all these little water ways are called Folly brook.
Upper reaches wooded with several species of cases caddis, including Micropterna sequax. Lower down where more light & vegetation some aquatic beetles found. Both biotic indicators of good water quality. Close to Dollis brook water quality starts to decline.

Folly Brook marks the boundary between Hertfordshire and Middlesex. The local authorities either side ended up in the amalgamated London Borough of Barnet so it no longer forms any kind of administrative boundary let alone a county boundary.

I believe the 'ginormous deluxe mansion' pictured used to belong to record producer Mickie Most. It is now owned by Mike Ashley (Sports Direct).
